Great Indy Gun mock-ups

Howdy,

Two companies currently make very high quality, full size polyurethane guns for law enforcement training. The companies are Blue Guns and ASP Red Guns. All models are around $40-$50 each. They each make Browning HPs:

IMHO, the Blue Gun is the closest: except for the hammer, it is virtually identical to one of the HPs documented to be used in Raiders. The Red Gun has the correct ring hammer, but the grip is wrong.

They don't make the big N-frame S&W, but they do make the slightly smaller but extremely similar K-frame replicas:

Again, I think the Blue Gun is the slightly better replica for our purposes, though both models have the thicker, non-tapering "bull" barrel which differs from Indy's tapered barrel Smiths.

I think these are some of the best options out there for holster stuffers. I will be ordering these sometime this summer, and will post a review.

I have the Blue Gun K-frame S&W style though I was able to find one cast in black from a theater supply place. It was almost 10 years ago so I can't remember the name, but I found it on-line. It works great for a holster stuffer for $40 (best i can remember). I also got a .45 (I know, but close enough for me) cast in black off e-bay around the same time.

My concern with the blue or red is inevitably any paint job will show wear/distressing and the base color will show through.

Seems like it was easier to find these on-line a few years ago. Now it seems everything is soft-air.

Hmmm.... I've handled the red guns before and they are pretty sturday, but I don't know if that's what I want.

My version of the blue S&W made by Rings arrived today. There's a few issues that need correcting and the casting certainly isn't perfect but nothing a bit of filling and sanding can't fix. After a bit of painting and good coating of graphite on the "metal" parts it should look pretty good with the addition of the swivel. It fits my Todd's Raiders holster perfectly.

Bummer the space behind the trigger is filled in. Not that big of a thing to fix, but not consistent with the picks on the websites. Looking forward to how the paint job comes out.

Wow, that gun certainly appears different from the one on their website. Still looks good, but so much for consistency. BTW, they only sell the black ones to law enforcement/military now. I can't find any theatrical company that has them anymore. Anyone have any more info on the black models? Any LE/military folks who could legally do a run of these for COWers?

As for the blue finish, get the Krylon that bonds to plastic for the paint job.
