PRESENTING MY SA ADVENTUREBILT

Post by sithspawn »

Just got this yesterday from Steve Delk. It is in HF size on his block with SA ribbon, stunt felt, liner, and sweat.

Unfortunately, I'm NOT going to wear that as I don't want to soil the SA liner. That is purely an investment piece. I'll have to be content to wear my AB Henry. ;)

I can understand and fully respect your decision, but isn't that a little like Al the Toy Collector from Toy Story 2?

(This is said in a very tongue in cheek manner so please do not take offense.)

You own the last of the last. No more to be had. 20 years from now, that hat will be worth alot more than you paid for it. I would not wear it either. Some things are for collecting only. This is one of them. Fedora

Hence the tongue in cheek attitude behind my quote. I wouldn't wear it either.

However, I would be sweating those next 20 years.
Especially in my house with kids.

I'm not offended. If this was a regular AB it would definitely be on my head, but this is as close to a film hat (being made from the actual leftover material) as i'm likely to get. With this my 28 year quest for the most accurate gear is over. :) \:D/

I don't have children, nor do I particularly want them, so i don't have to worry about that. I still have collectibles in mint condition that I bought 30 years ago. So i take care of my stuff.

IF we get the next one, I am gonna politely suggest to Bernie to make the jackets darker, so you get the contrast between the hat and the jacket. I think trying to talk him into a different blockshape would be wasted time though. He is all about continuity, although who knows? Personally, I would love to see my new block in this next film, just creased the same as the CS fedora. He then would not have to steam them as much to get the look. And if it is a dry film, we very well may see rabbit fedoras in this new one. I already have the ground work laid for a special run of rabbit, just in case.....but as with the CS fedora, that is their call, not ours. Time will tell, I guess. Fedora

I've been wondering why the filmmakers don't go back to a Raiders-style crease with the long, tight pinch in the crown. No disrespect intended towards the CS hats, but I would love to see Fedora, Marc and John making hats for the fifth film that are creased more like the orginal Raiders hat.

Marc and I both really pushed hard to go with the Raiders look. To no avail. Bernie was logically wanting to put a hat on Indy's head similiar to TLC, for continuity. Bernie said he personally hated the look of the Raiders hat with the brim askew and the tight front crease. And, it is up to the costumer designer to come up with the hat.

Steven was tickled to death with the CS fedora. Now, what would be a hoot is when Indy hands off the fedora to Mutt, in this next film, instead of getting the CS styled fedora, instead he pulls out his old Raiders hat and hands him that. At least we would get to make one Raiders fedora!!! I think that is the only way we will get to revisit the Raiders fedora. I just got the idea from talking to Bernie that TLC hat was the favorite of the Big Three. No other crease job was even considered, it started and ended with TLC hat. Marc and I finally figured we best shut up about the Raiders fedora. Heck, when we told Bernie our first sample hats were the Raiders block, he picked the other blockshape I had sent!!! Should have kept my mouth SHUT!!! But, I did not have any socks around to stuff it. Hindsight is 20/20. Fedora

One has to also wonder if there was still some hard feelings between DN and Spielberg/Lucas regarding her Raiders work, and that also translated to making the hat as far removed from that designers product as possible. :-k

Just thinking out loud here....

This talk of the next movie has me worried it will be all about Mutt..... CS hat and black Mutt jacket.

I may have missed it but what is 'stunt felt'?

I did that too, kept things from my childhood pretty pristine, not mint, but not destroyed either. Then I had kids...
I can honestly say that watching my son get the same excitement from something I played with at his age has been awesome.
And since I do this hobby nowadays, whenever I get my whip out, he wants to play as Mutt. But to each his own...

Congratulations on that hat. It is pretty awesome to have something direct from screen lineage.

Steve, how many "SA Special" hats did you end up doing? 6 or 7?

Can we also assume that there will be as much secrecy surrounding your work on any future installments as there was last time? I realize a lot of that had to do with the lapse in time between movies and wanting to keep building up anticipation. I'm just curious if you'll be able to share a bit more of the process as it happens the second time around.

I think it's sad that you won't wear the hat. After all, your head is where a hat belongs. But I can definitely understand why you want to treasure this hat, it's a darn good looking hat. :TOH:

Congratulations.

I have wondered that myself Michaelson. One thing I do know. These film makers and all of the folks associated with them are human beings, with as many human foibles as people just seem to have. The difference between them and us, is just the income. I could tell some personal experience stories, but I will refrain from doing so. I will take them to the grave with me.

Regarding the query on the "stunt felt" Within that one big run that the film hats were made from, there were some bodies that were a little darker in color. Can't tell it, until you pounce. This came later on in the producton run of hats that we made. The 7 5/8 stunt hats that I made used this run. Bernie was aware of it, and said they would lighten them up, cosmetically. That is all that it is. John Williams, and many of the gift hats made for Steven were of this same felt.
Can we also assume that there will be as much secrecy surrounding your work on any future installments as there was last time? I realize a lot of that had to do with the lapse in time between movies and wanting to keep building up anticipation. If and when.....there will be total secretcy this time. Not even a hint. I don't want to experience the ire of Mr. Pollack this time. And the mods here won't have to scramble to nuke certain threads, that came from me!!! So, you won't even know whom gets this next contract. We would have to deny it, totally. Fedora

Not trying to speak for Steve, but I just read thru the "SA liner" threads and it appears #1-5 were made for COW members in March-April. A #6 was Steve's liner, but then he remembered he made a hat for someone last year with that particular liner. He'd have to verify it, but I thought he said somewhere he had a screenused hat. The liner I have would be #7 . He recently discovered it with other leftover material from the film hat production in his storage. If I'm wrong about this I'm sure Steve can chime in and correct me.

I'll keep mine stored for now, but eventually I want to get some kind of lifesize figure like Chris King got to display all the SA gear. I'll get another jacket to go with my AB Henry so I can have something to wear and beat up in my travels.
