Heaven's Gate Hat

Was watching Heaven's Gate last night and Kris Kristofferson's hat looks quite Indy. Anyone know any history behind it ? The film came out in 1980. I did a search here and didnt find anything. Pretty sweet lid, I liked the way it was bashed.
