Adventurebilt Reblocks by Fedora?

I'm sorry, I posted a thread similar to this about a half a year back or so and never heard a reply from Steve on here or by email.

I have two hats, both are about 3 - 4 years old, and they're in need of a reblock. I have a few questions about it however that would be great to have answered if possible.

1. Can I get my Raiders one reblocked on the new Raiders block Fedora just announced even though it probably has the old crown height? Will this be possible without making the brim to long?
2. Can I get my LC had reblocked with the CS block and would that look ok?

3. How should I send the hats? I don't have the original boxes, so what is a good way of doing this?
4. Can I get the liners replaced?

5. What is the average turn around time for each hat?
6. What is the cost of the reblock including shipping?
7. What do I need to do prior to sending a hat? (Does Fedora need to confirm he'll do them, does he need my order information, etc)
8. What do I put so customs won't hold, or charge me (or Steve) extra for?

9. How many times should a hat be reblocked before it won't taper for a long time?

That is all I can think of. If anyone has any other information that I should know I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks!

The thing is, I don't believe Steve is taking any rework at this time, so essentially questions 1-8 can't be answered at this time, with the exception of #4, which is 'yes'. Maybe BendingOak can help here.

He has said that once he gets back to a regular work time (which should be fairly soon), he'll open that door again.

As to how many times for reblock, based on what I've read and heard, if it's a high quality beaver felt, it should last a lifetime, and can be rebuilt over and over again. It all depends on when the felt 'dies' is when it stops tapering. I understand Marc and Steve have a way to effectively 'kill' the felt, but it's a trade secret, so we don't know what the technique is.

Otherwise, it all depends on the age of the hat, and materials involved.

Hope that helped a little. Anyone else able to fill in the holes?

Regards! Michaelson

Its my understanding that it takes beaver between five and eight years to die. I've also read Steve write that reblocking your hat once a year helps this process. Its way back in the archives though, so don't ask me where I read that.

I can't answer for Steve about reblocks on time or price. I try and keep up on things but things are getting busy for me as well. I'm not sure if Steve is taking reblocks.

for me on how I deal with reblocks is to put them in line just like they where new. To get a hat from me is around 3-4 months and reblocks would be the same.

What I know about how many reblocks before it stops tappering. It depends on the felt. The felt that both Steve and I use is around 4 times. At least that's what I remember Steve telling me but that a long time ago and my mind could be going.

I'm sorry to say but you might have to play the e-mail game with Steve and find out from him to be sure.

As for shipping. Let me get back to you with some pics for making something.
