MKVI(I)? Can someone help me here?

I got this bag at an antique store (for $8, I was sooo happy about that) and I think it's some sort of weird MKVI-MKVII hybrid or something. Can somebody please help identify it? From everything I've seen on here, the disc on the side is the identifying element of an MKVII but mine also has the flapped inside pocket as described in the MKVI.

?

Thanks everyone in advance. It's great to be here and see so many other fans!

First of all, welcome aboard! :D Swindiana is our resident bag expert, so hopefully he'll catch wind of this soon. My guess is that it's a MKVII variant. Depending on the company and country that produced the bags, you can find variants in the pattern. Some have more vent holes, some less, some have different kinds of vent holes, some have different snaps, disks, etc... Yours has the basic MVII layout whereas the MKVI bags had outside flap pockets on the back. Yours also has the small inside pocket for the mask defogger (or whatever the small canister of stuff was) with the exception that it's a flap and snap pocket. That's a new one as far as I've seen! But for $8, you can't go wrong! Personally, since this is an odd variant, I'd keep the original strap intact. Some folks just tuck it inside the bag and attach an extra leather strap to the rings. ;)

Wow. Thanks for the info. I really can't tell you how much I appreciate a website like this. I've been a fan seeking this kind of information since the 1980s Starlog days! I think I still have an old article about how to dress like Indiana Jones from a circa 1983 issue. I will try to find and post for other fans.

I currently have a vintage unissued MK-VI on the way from another gearhead, and I'm going to cut that sucker off the minute I pull it out of the box, just like I did 10 years ago with my unissued Roadster Factory bag. They made thousands of them, and they aren't particularly valuable despite their dwindling numbers, especially when they never saw action.

Looks like a canadian MKVII. I have one just like it. Unissued. Its the bag I use most now, as I like the little flapped pocket instead of the open one on the regular MKVII bags.

True, but this particular one is a seemingly rare variant of a MKVII, unlike the average bag that's far more easily obtained. That's why I recommended keeping it intact. But at the end of the day it's your bag, scots72, to do with as you please. But if you slice it and dice it, don't tell me. I don't want to know about it. =; [-( ;)

Hey, I'll gladly swap you an original "standard" MKVII for this bag if you want one to cut up! :D

Bink -

Between all the hat butchering ( and treats of ), bag canibalizing ( and threats of ), etc... Sometimes I have to picture you doing all your moderating with a hankie and a bottle to numb the pain nearby.
Bink's stages of grieving as demonstrated through emoticons:

[-( - denial
:x - anger
[-o< - bargaining
:( - depression
:| - acceptance

It seems you are in the [-o< phase on this one at this point...

The marking on the flap appears to be a broad arrow in a C, which if it in fact is, is Canadian.

That does make it a fairly rare variant of the Mk VII.

I finally received my Endicott's Mk-VI yesterday, and I made a special video to celebrate the occasion. Bink, you might want to take Indy's advice: "Don't look! Keep your eyes shut!", or else this might happen: :Dietrich: And if you DO watch this video, I'll be hiding behind the car. :Plymouth:

LOL - I'm just going to interchange the bags between the Wade ToD strap that I have. But first I have to age it with sandpaper, and run it thru the washing machine a couple dozen times. I know this has to be excruciating for Bink and Michaelson...

There are less destructive ways of removing the strap that would have been a little easier on b(r)ink

Affirmative about it being Canadian. ;)

I've had two Canadian ones before, one of them looking just like that but in a more sand color tone.
The snap/flap anti-dimming case pocket and the shape of the vent is what most gives it away.
(Oh, and the C as mentioned earlier, of course).

Regards,
Swindiana

I hate to have to do it, but I need to sell this bag, so if anyone reads this and is interested, please message me and recommend a fair price for it. Thanks!
