In case anyone has been trying to fill that gap regarding the LC German fighter pilots, here's something to consider. Just posted at the Wings site, and according to the information I've read, the ONLY maker of this jacket in the States.

Regards! Michaelson

I really like this jacket. I didn't know all that about there not being a standard issue jacket for the Lufftwaffe. Very interesting.

Sarge looks very thin in that picture.

How is he doing anyway?

Last I heard, he was doing ok. Lost a LOT of weight after the heart attack, and has cut WAY back on work, so it's doing him some good to finally slow down....even if it wasn't technically by his own choice. ;)

G&B/Flightsuits also has a Lutwaffe jacket which looks a bit more authentic. It's also olive green in color. (Their French air force jacket also looks very cool).

Thing about the G&B jacket, it's based on the current issue, not a WW2 jacket. Says so right in their write up.

I really like the design. I'm a big fan of "The Great Waldo Pepper". Great flick. This jacket instantly reminded me of the Ernst Kesler character from that movie.

Looks really great. Unfortunately I don't like the look of shorter waist length jackets - do you think it would look wrong if it sat 2-3 inches over the belt?

Looks very bikerish, and very mean.

While I doubt anyone would know it was German.. ain't it a little weird that it's a German jacket with a "US Wings" logo on it

It's a classic German type jacket certainly. And many vintage ones like it have appeared on other jacket sites. But like the Indy jacket it takes those in the know to know...

Just got the word that the jackets have arrived.

The hold up was they had the 1939 zips and bottom buckle duplicated by the company who made the originals, so that took some time. The stock arrived today.

Only 90 were made, and at this moment there are 83 left.

Hello All

I'm doing great!! With reference to my weight loss, after having open heart surgery and been blessed with a second chance at life, I've finally learned to take it easy!

I wanted to let everyone know just how authentic our Fighter Jacket really is. This is the real deal right down to the zippers which are made by Riri (the original manufacture).

You can do research at your local library, one of the books we used was by Donald L. Caldwell titled, JG 26 Photographic history of Luftwaffe's Top Guns. You can find several pictures including one on page 74 showing Edon Mager wearing this exact jacket in 1939.

We also had an original that was lent to us for the reproduction.

There were several types of these jackets made however, the design we are using was the most preferred.

That is a beautiful jacket. Not a look that I feel I could pull off, but one nice jacket nevertheless.

Looks great - three years ago I bought one from Sportsmansguide - it has Major shoulderboards on it. Did anyone see those back then? (Major meaning rank, not size that is)

Well, whatever we are calling Michaelson now, the jacket looks great! I'm not really into black leather jackets. I have one 50's style biker jacket, like Mutts but with the collar snaps, and I never wear it. There is something about this jacket that calls to me tough. Great job, Sarge!

It's definitely a tough looking jacket -- a real beauty. Although totally accurate, I'm not crazy about the lower pockets. Now if US Wings were to do there own version of the Lewis Dominator (seen here: http://www.lewisleathers.com/gallery/do ... 551_2.html ), I would jump on it.

The very similar Lewis Corsair (http://www.lewisleathers.com/gallery/co ... _60_2.html) was worn by Luftwaffe pilots in Guy Hamilton's 1969 film "The Battle of Britain" with Michael Caine and a young and dashing Ian McShane of "Deadwood" fame.

Hamilton, of course, went on to film "Force 10 from Navarone" with none other than Harrison Ford.

Not too many fighter pilots at that rank. Then again, Gen. MacArthur was fond of wearing an A-2.... :-k

Yeah, there was only one Generalfeldmarschall of the Luftwaffe. He was an Ace in his own right

Just to add, it appears to have the same polyester twill type lining found in G&B jackets. Quite comfortable.

I'm also surprised at how much lighter in weight it is in comparison to any other Wings cowhide jackets I've handled in the past. Must be the difference in Argentine cowhide tanning? :-k

The vertical side entry inside pocket on the left is VERY deep, and the right side horizontal pocket is notebook/wallet depth. The outside pockets have covered button entries, but the way they're designed, you don't have to unbutton them to put your hands inside for item access. Interesting design, and one I'm not familiar with.

I have a feeling this one is going to get a LOT of wear time this Fall. :M:

Considering how many times folks have debated where an actual location of a belt line 'should be located', I'm not sure that information would have helped you anyway.

On me, the bottom of the jacket falls about 4 inches below where MY belt is worn...or the same location of the bottom my regular Indy jackets.

Where it ends up on you may vary....depending on where you wear YOUR belt. ;)

That is helpful, M. To describe it as about the same as an Indy means it isn't the real short jacket it looks in the pics. ;)

Bless you, my son! :TOH:

It has that appearance, that's true....but I do NOT have a 'slim figure', BELIEVE me.

It's an optical illusion. The slight tapering toward the bottom of the jacket DOES make it appear to be more 'form fitting', though...that's a fact. :-k
