I'm not sure how to search for this specific info so appologies. What are the differences between Indys Fed and a 'standard' one. I understand 'his' is taller etc. but what are the actual differences between them, specifically Raiders.

Any help you could give would be appreciated.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a "standard" fedora. There have always been fedoras with different specs and dimensions. Its not like there was one set of measurements and that was it. Men bought fedoras that fit their face and shape. As there are men of all shapes and sizes, there were, and still are, fedoras of all shapes and sizes. Indy's hat was a rather tall and wide brimmed hat, but it wasn't the first of its kind.

...on the other hand, if you're wondering what specifically makes an "Indiana Jones" hat what it is, then it's features like a high, 'stove pipe' non-tapered crown, wide brim, 'centre dent' rather than tear-drop, the width of the ribbon, the bow, the 'pinch' (very tight for Raiders, less pinched for the others) and the Raiders has "the turn"

there's more, I just can't think of them right now

Check out the Main Page for some pics and more info

In the 30's, Indy's fedora would not have been too uncommon, though it certainly isn't your average fedora. The crown on the Raiders hat is somewhere between 5 1/2'' to 5 1/4'' tall and brim measures 2 7/8'' front and back by 2 5/8'' on the sides. I think the ribbon is 39mm wide. The turn wasn't created by Deb Noodleman, but it certainly wasn't the norm.

Thanks! MANY years ago I bought a fedora and thought 'great Indy!'. Now I realize it's not as tall / wide etc. Mine was 'off the rack' from a long established maker. I suppose I termed that 'standard'. While I appreciate all hats would be different to meet the requirments of the heads of their owners, I thought Indys may have been more of a 'one off' this making a comparison to the 'standard' easier.
