Excellent, Franco! I like them a lot! Did he ask you to make them in 8 plait for any particular reason? Durability, perhaps?

Karol,
if by loading you mean lead in the butt, then yes, I am. I always put lead in the butt end of all my whips, and they usually balance withing an inch or two of the end of the handle. Because these have 10" handles instead of the "usual" 8", it was easier to get it right on the nose. Actually, these whips balance somewhere over the ferrules.
The 8 plait is because at a mere 5' there wasn't a whole lot of room to drop from 12 to 6 without always being in the process of dropping a strand even before the last one dropped has been properly anchored. I know it can be done. I know many do successfully, but I wanted to keep these simple. Besides, there is no real difference at the tip of the whip, it's just over the first part of the thong where you notice the wider strands. Also being that these whips are going to have a full working life (remember these are for a stage artist who uses them every day, not someone who only takes it out once a week), and I wanted them to be sturdy since they are not going to have an easy go at it. But mostly it was to have fewer drop points on account of the length.
Cheers,
Franco

Franco, very nice indeed. What is the diameter of the handles? Maybe 21mm or close?

Hi Gary,
Thanks, glad you like 'em!
There was a tinny bit of variation between the two (fractions of a millimeter...); one was just under 23 mm and the other just above. This is the handle at its widest point, right under the ferrules.

Beautiful looking whips. Do you regularly do custom orders like that? Also, are those roo or cow?

Thanks!
I do make whips but this was the first time I made them with engraved ferrules, and I'm not sure if I will make any more like these, unless of course the person provides the finished ferrules themselves.

I really like the ferrule on these too, though I may be somewhat partial to the initials
If Devis doesn’t want them, send them to me

Hi, sorry I forgot to answer the second part of your question. Yes, these are kangaroo whips with kip bolsters.

Hi Franco
Good to see you managed to get hold of some ferrules in your neck of the woods, and they look really good.
Kind Regards
Simon

Thanks Simon, though I'm still not convinced they are anywhere near as good as yours or Bernie's...

Thanks! That's actually a very big compliment for me hehehe:-)
I used to have this attitude of 8 plait is a poorman's whip, but ever since I saw what Skip does with 8 plait, I have changed my mind. These look nice with the eight plait and I have no regrets about making that choice AT ALL!

Thanx Franco... You do good work yourself.
These whips are beautiful, and knowing your standard of perfection I know they throw perfectly as well.
