Taking Christy's to the limit?

Me and my bud are going to making a short film based on the Roswell crash and I have this perfect dusty sandy pit to film some of it in. Since its set in '47 I figured I could use my Christy's. I was wondering how much wear I could put on it to make it look like a "trusty" fedora, with sand and persperation and all. With all the talk I feel like any abuse would make this hat implode on itself. I know the durability has been discussed, but I'd like a straightforward answer. Thanks!

I don't own one, and haven't even seen one in person, but from what I've read around here, taper is the main issue. I say...beat it up!

I believe owners of the Christys have been straightforward about their experiences, but results vary due to sample to sample quality variations, and also differences in the way people choose to use the hat.
I don't think the Christys is intended to be pushed very hard; I believe it is a dress hat designed for light everyday use. That's how I use mine, and I've been very happy with it; no noticeable taper after a year of wear.
If you like your Christys and want to maintain it in its present condition, I wouldn't recommend any torture tests (unless you are curious to see the results and don't mind taking the risk); a more ruggedly built hat like the Federation would be more suitable for that.

Alright, problem solved. Realized I had an Akubra Plainsman factory reject I got from my first visit at David Morgan. Although I know it can stand abuse, especially with the thick felt, Im willing to throw this thing into the pits of ####. I'm puttin a turn on it and givin it a leather band... It fits the character I'm portraying a lot better as well. I'll post pics of it once I fine tune everything.
