Just wanted to share my screen accurate grips I just got for my S&W 1917. They sure give the gun a whole new character! Still looking to find a replacement barrel I can cut down so that I can complete the Stembridge conversion. Especially since I now have the correct grips.

Yes it is an original S&W 1917, but it is one of the Brazillian contract guns which were made in 1937. Wish I could do a better photo but all I got right now is my cellphone camera. I'd been looking for a pair of these for quite some time and finaly found them on e-bay. Paid a bit more than I wanted too but at least I have them!!

Michael, how about posting some pics of your new re-issue Smith?!

Thanks!

OK, here is a close up but made with my cellphone camera so not the best. Also a pic of the actual screen used grips for comparison.

Hey Indiana Bond, I saw your post on marakesh. I have a barrel that before I offer it for sale to you (but only if you want to) I need the experts here to confirm that it'll fit your S&W. (it should)

I bought it off the bay awhile back for a conversion, but my gunsmth had a bunged up barrel he could cut down, So I have this one. But I need confirmation that it'll fit. It is a replacemnt barrel for a S&W 1917 of unknown Mfg.

Here's some pics. (if your intrested, PM me with an offer).

So van anyone validate that this will work, it has no S&W symbols or other lettering that is on an orriginal barrel. You can also view other pics on the photobucket site.

Croft,

Is this a comparison pic with the barrel that came off your 1917?

Image

I may be interested in purchasing it but like you said It would be nice to get a confirmation if it will fit. I'm not sure from the photo as it looks to have a slightly smaller diameter and also I do not see the pin grove at the top of the threads.

Any one out there have a clue if this would work? :-k

also I do not see the pin grove at the top of the threads.
Good catch, I never even noticed that the groove wasn't there. I'd think a compatent gunsmith could put in though. Yes that's the comparison pic of an actual S&W barrel and the replacement.
Threading looks the same,
I'm not sure from the photo as it looks to have a slightly smaller diameter
when I put them barrel to barrel, there very close. Sorry I have no micrometers ;)
I hope someone is more knowledgable about these things than I.

The replacement barrel looks smaller. Could it be a .38 barrel?
