Wested has or had a cotton duck Indy jacket

I know of Wested's denim cotton Raiders jacket. I like it a lot, but I found a photo of the Wings cottong jacket and was immediately interested in that. The heat and humidity in Miami rarely allow for a leather jacket to be worn so I've been looking into a lighter Indy jacket. Even a thin lamb jacket is too heavy most of the year. Cotton would do the job just fine as I have other cotton jackets that breathe quite well. I'd like to get ahold of a Wings one but I won't rule the Wested one out.

This came up on my google search:

Maybe Bink can chime in. Its obviously not offered anymore, but I would still like to know more about this jacket. Maybe somone that owns one is intersted in selling?

That is indeed Bink, wearing the famous jacket. I tried to track down a used one for a while, but with no luck. In fact, if I hadn't gotten US Wings to acknowledge it's existence, I might have started to think Bink was mistaken or lied to! His is the only example I have ever found.

The cotton US Wings pre-dated the cotton Wested, in fact (late 2000/2001). I remember we had a contest on Indyfan when it was introduced, and one of the youngest members won. Cool jacket, although there was some debate about the cotton body/leather collar. Perhaps a search on Indyfan will show you the history. It wasn't a big enough seller to continue, but I have to admit, the Wested one looks pretty sweet (I wasn't into the leather/cotton combo)

I think it looks pretty good, I even like the leather collar. I think it would be better if the body colour matched the collar colour though.

That leather/cotton combination is part of what I love so much. I'd see if we can get another run of these made for us here at COW but we've just learned how special runs of Wings jackets go.
Either way, I really like this jacket. Maybe Magnoli could make a copy?

Definitely contact Magnoli, his site says they can do any pattern in any material (my paraphrase).

Yes, indeed, the link to those pictures is my US Wings cotton Indy. And they do exist, Chewie! In fact, mine is the prototype. Sadly, they do not make these jackets any more. I like it because it still has a bit of Indy flair without being a total Indy jacket. I think what killed it for most folks is that they never made it in brown, just the khaki, and most folks just like their khaki from the waist down.
This could be one of the biggest reasons it wasn't a big seller, especially with the fans. But yes, after US Wings made their cotton Indy, that's when Wested decided it was a good idea to make one themselves. Mine is a medium and fits just like a medium should on me. It's a US made jacket, which leads me to believe most of the sizing issues came from their import jackets.
I really like this jacket. It's my go-to jacket for the warmer months and it's put up with a lot of abuse without issue. I might be willing to sell it if the buyer funds my next Nowak purchase, but otherwise, no dice!

The deal breaker was the color, plain and simple. Folks just couldn't get past that.
David Hack decided to stop just short of making the color change, as they were able to source the khaki material at the same time as their cotton A-2's they were making at the time, and so didn't want to add an addition cost of sourcing a brown cotton.
We had approached Wested first to make a cotton Indy, but at that time Peter wasn't interested, so Wings accepted the project.
It was a bit heavier in weight than the first cotton twill Wested....about equal to the current denim Wested jacket.
A nice jacket, but the color killed it for sure.

Very interesting, indeed.
Rick, I have some contacts in the music industry. How about the jacket for some phone calls? Can't promise anything, but I'll try. How about I record a demo cd of you for free? I'll even master it!

Actually the tan with the brown collar is quite a classic "coat" look.

I love the USW two-tone look. I think the problem is saying it's an Indy jacket. It might be the same pattern, but it's primary appeal exists outside of that. I see it as a vintage style casual jacket. I'm sure Magnoli could replicate it, but couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of money on cotton twill.

Neither could I. I think the cotton denim Wested will fit the bill. Still, I'd like to get a hold of one of these. Maybe Sgt. Hack has one in the warehouse that he's forgotten about?

We did. This is an old trail and story, and was the reason Wested finally relented and created the first brown twill cotton Indy jacket....which then evolved into the denim version currently offered.
The only real problem with the twill version was it required drycleaning where the denium does not. The Wings jacket also could be machine washed.
The whole point of the cotton jacket was to have a solid, reliable and tough light weight Indy styled jacket for warm weather wear that after being worn, could be tossed in a washing machine, dried, then put back on if traveling and on the road. In, out, and back to work....
Wested's denium jacket is a fine jacket, but VERY heavy weight in my personal opinion. The Wings jacket was physically light in weight, and tough as nails....but the color just turned folks off.....at least those who wanted a dark brown jacket. For those of us who really didn't mind the khaki, it was a homerun on all points, and it was only $85 when first introduced.
Speaking of the Wested twill jacket, I have one of the first production models that they made, and even with the dry clean only situation, it's my 'go to' jacket in warmer weather. I even purchased one for my wife, she liked mine so much. The only thing I can say that this jacket has done is faded over the years from wear and sun exposure (not from dry cleaning), so the material was not that color fast. Still, it's a favorite of mine. I only wish it had been machine washable like the Wings jacket.

Do you have one of the Wings cotton jackets, Mark? I'd like to see more photos of it. Maybe Bink can post some more photos of it when he gets a chance. Do you think you could pics of the Wested cotton twill jacket too?

There was a contest held for the first production jacket too. Basically best essay of why we deserved the jacket. 12 year old Matt Werner won it. Wonder where he is now.

The colors of the jacket look similar to the barn coat sold by LL Bean (if ordered in Stone)

M,
It is because that's the default Saddle color. If you select Stone, it looks like the jacket you're referring to. Hope that helps.

Hello, its me. had a spare moment so popped my head in although I promised myself I would not.
Its like giving up smoking. Anyway I do still have a lightweight cotton drill if someone wants one made up
and it can be washed. Its not a stock item so would cost about £65.
Cheers

I'm with Dave. The khaki body and dark collar are the charm of the Wings jackets. I would like that Orvis if it had the darker collar.
At least Wested provide two (as of a few posts back) options for a non-leather Indy.
PETER - is your cotton brown or khaki?

Take him up on this gents. Like I said, mine is my most used jacket in my closet....considering I live where it stays pretty warm most the year, it would have to be.
I just wish you had this material back 'in the day', Peter!

Looks like an all right jacket, the color scheme definitely makes it look only very remotely like an Indy jacket. I can see why if it were marketed as an Indy jacket that there would be few takers, guess that production backfired, hopefully the TOD jacket will fare better.
