This one is for you dad!
I've already shown you some teasers of this hat in the "a couple of hats" thread. However I cannot deny that my pride makes me believe that this hat deserves its own thread. I hope you don't mind.
Four, almost five years... this is how long you've been bugging me to PLEASE make a hat for you. Since you're lurking around here, dad, you'll know that patience is a virtue in this hobby, more than in any other, but your upcomming 65th. birthday and the trip to Las Vegas this May made me finally start on the hat you wanted. Alas, due to all the knowledge you gained from our conversations and your continueous reading on the forums, you know of things that means more work for me, so no wonder it took a little longer LOL! Due to this background, I think it's only fair that the first time you see it, is on a forum as well. Since you never post, I'll do as always and ask the members to share their honest opinion - good and bad as always...
Well here it is - I only need to sew in the liner and the little tie bow on the sweatband yet:
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e132/ ... CN1350.jpg
Grey with navy blue ribbon and Eckart style creasing
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e132/ ... CN1353.jpg
Handstitched - as requested
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e132/ ... CN1355.jpg
Ein hübscher Rücken...
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e132/ ... CN1359.jpg
Still a little damp after shaping it, but you'll get the idea.
Wear it with pride - that's how I made it.
Regards,
Marc

Wow Marc! Looks great. I dig on the angular bow treatment. Almost makes it look very streamlined.
Good job!
Cheers!

Re: This one is for you dad!
Thats a very unique hat, I've never seen a style such as that. The part I love the most is the top dent, that is trully awsome and original. I'm sure your dad .... nice try.... will be quite pleased with it.
Re: This one is for you dad!
Is that what you're calling me these days, Marc...Dad? I'll take to calling you son and wear it with pride!
Seriously, man...such artistry. I love the wider bound edge and the ribbon is tops. Excellent job, my man.

Very well done my friend. Again another beautiful hat. I really think you are a machine. The stitching on the bound edge is fantastic.

Re: This one is for you dad!
Guys, I cannot thank you enough!!! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for your ever so kind words!!!
I've sewn in the liner and the tie bow in the meanwhile, done a little tweaking to the bow and taken a few better pictures:

http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e132/ ... CN1364.jpg
(yeah... I'm already looking forward to doing the ribbon all over again, once the grey roohide sweatbands are in... at least you get a good view on the embroidied bridal satin liner)

John, bro', if you'd have a look at my finger tips, you'd see that I'm VERY human indeed (where's the ice?)
Thanks again,
Marc

I feel your pain. I really feel your pain. I just look at your sewing of the bound edge that you did by hand and see how perfect it is I know how hard and how long that took you to do. Great job.

Re: This one is for you dad!
Wow, that is the most interesting hat I have ever seen. Your dad will be very proud to own that hat. The ribbon is quite a work of art if you ask me. You have really outdone yourself Marc on this one, simply outstanding work. Man, with the work you do on that hat I really want a AB-Dlx. I guess I will have to save my dollars to eventually own a hat from you Marc. Nice work, great craftmanship. I could send you a bucket of Ice for the hands, but by the time it got to Germany it might be a little pool of water.

So you dad is 65? Wow, I am almost old enoug to be.....your father!! How have we gotten along so well, with the generation gap? I know. We both have a huge common interest. We can thank the fictional character known as Indy for that! Great job Marc! Fedora

Really like that bow, the extra hump in the center of the C-dent also adds another little flourish that is nice.

Re: This one is for you dad!
One of those rare incidents where the hat doesn't define the man, the man defines the hat. It being on his head just completes the picture.
WELL done!!!

The Hat: Lots of character and distinction... A Classic look and style.
The Man: Lots of character and distinction... A Classic look and style.
There's nothing better than when the Hat matches the Man.
Job Well Done Marc!
Much Respect,

Re: This one is for you dad!
Thanks guys!!! HIGHLY appreciated!
I'm very, very happy to read that you think that the hat matches my father That was the biggest issue with this hat - to create a hat that really emphasizes the character of my father. I just thrilled from these kind remarks!
Thanks again,
Marc

Re: This one is for you dad!
Not only that, but it's good to see a hat doing what it's SUPPOSED to do. There not a bit of skin exposed to the sun, so it's doing the job a hat was designed to do....protect the individual from the elements!

The hat looks perfect! I can only imagine how proud your father must be wearing his own son's creation.
Re: This one is for you dad!
Here's a (not fully thought through) idea, of what it would look like, if I had to implement some design ideas for Mr.
As I said: not thought through
