Crease in the Leather - Solutions?

Hello fellas,

been a looooooong time since I've posted, nice to be back.

Have a question, need some help. There is a crease that has developed down the right side of the front of the jacket. I was wearing a messenger bag when it was raining hard a while ago and I believe the weight pulled down on the leather and stretched it just a touch - enough so to leave a folding/crease mark from where the leather doesn't pull tight into the base of the collar.

Now I tried the cloth around the iron remedy and it did nothing.

I spoke to a professional costumer who advised I try various leather cremes, solutions, etc to rub in and hopefully it will loosen the hide enough to allow it to retain its shape.

I would rather hear what you guys, who actually UNDERSTAND what these jackets mean to us, have to say about it in terms of a plausible solution.

Will peccard's fix this? Or at least help? The leather is not stretched too terribly, but it is in an inconvenient place so as to create that crease that runs down the length of the face of the jacket's right side.

As I said, any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

It is Novapelle, Wested, hasn't been worn too much. I'll try to get a pic up some time tomorrow. A friend recommended shoe working leather creme/lotion to really loosen the leather. Is this advisable?

Lot of people have said Novapelle which as you know is distressed cow responds well to Pecards to add back oils and darken somewhat , certainly won't hurt....I'd probably try a light coat under the collar ,or other area that doesn't show and see how you like the result,...geees can't believe I beat Michaelson in mentioning Pecards......... :-

Heck, Hatch, I can't have ALL the fun now, can I?

...and if you haven't noticed, I no longer mention the product unless directly asked or am personally drawn into a conversation anymore after folks accused me of being 'single minded' on Pecards. I'm not. I've also suggested Letaps and Lexol over the years, and will continue to do so....it's just that Pecards has been the product of choice for specific applications and situations, so that's the product I suggest if it's the best for a particular problem. :M:

Regards! Michaelson

A Hollywood leather jacket maker (not Tony Nowak, if that's what you're thinking ;)) told me that a quick fix to removing wrinkles/creases from leather jackets would be ironing the crease out with a brown paper bag acting as a buffer if the iron is not teflon. However, I would imagine this would be highly damaging to the leather, and if used should only be used once as a last resort.

I have had this problem on several leather jackets over the years. I've reshaped my Wested goatskin several times this way, from hanger marks in the shoulders and the yolk be stretched out from hanging it on my stairway banister ball.
.
Soak jacket throughly in COLD water, roll up to "wring out" excess water, pull/stretch affected areas till crease is out, lay jacket out on its back FLAT (make sure the back has no wrinkles or folds while drying) on towels to dry (several days likely), after jacket is dry-put in the dryer on AIR FLUFF (no heat) to soften up again. Treat with Pecards or the like if desired. I have done this with goat and cow leather jackets, never tried it on a predistressed leather like novapelle. This technique is also useful in "training" collars, be sure the collar is shaped the way you like while the jacket dries.
