An Awesome Raiders Buckle Config!

i just been messin around with the buckle and side straps and found an awesome configuration...i think its pretty SA IMHO
mods i know there is more then 6 but i cant explain it in less..delete if its too much.
1) First take off one slider (they come off very easy just bend to the side and slip through loop)
2) Take slider over the whole slider/strap part.
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd15 ... e005-1.jpg
3) pull strap through loop thats attached to strap.
4) go back up through both loops as in pic
5) and then at last you put strap under loop and pull tight
http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd15 ... ure009.jpg
in the end it will look like this..
any questions or confusions please feel free to pm

Congrats! That's the best rectangular ring configuration I've seen!!! Nice work.

Looks good. If I had to make a single 'negative' observation, should the strap ever come loose without being noticed, you have an excellent chance of losing the one loose slider rather than just attaching it next to the other slider in the loop.
Personally I always err to the 'safe side', but that's just me.
Other than that, looks good!

It looks like it should hold well.
You've basically created a modified locking tri-bar.

I think RC is right and this looks like it would hold up fine as long as it doesn't get snagged on something and open up. Ya know, this MIGHT be how it was done on the Raiders jacket because there is a fold, yet I could never make out a center piece on a tri-glide and never could see both of the rectangluar black rings either, so this one may be it. Just goes to show you that even though many of us have been here for almost a decade (some at it longer than that) and we are still discovering new possibilities. Who woulda thunk it?

im starting to think the same as you, Agent5.. they could have used this way cuz they were coming undone, or just did it like this for the heck of it..
to me, i think it looks the same, it has the fold and you can see one slider on 1 side

I still think the ones in the movie pictured there are a tri-bar. They just have that slightly wider and one piece appearance.
They certainly could have though done this rectangular slider mod on some jackets though as replacements when a strap came undone, a buckle was maybe lost etc. It really does maintains the tri-bar buckle look.
I doubt you'll have problems with it.

Heyjude7 wrote:i put tri-bars on and it didnt have that extra hump/fold in it..in the middle... ya know what i mean?
I think it depends on the tri-bar used. The jacket no one likes mentioned uses a tri-bar that gives a bump in the middle and holds well.

It should hold well, but don't you think this configuration is unique enough that someone would have remembered doing when making the original? I know, dangerous question.
It should just be labeled the 'HeyJude buckle'

I don't know if that's an excuse. You'd be surprised what people can remember from 30 years ago.
Anyway, Heyjude did a good job of it.

i think it's a great configuration, but i think it's a pretty far reach if you're saying that this is THE hardware configuration.
it would be an easier pill to swallow if this hardware was a pronged 3 bar buckle....there are some instances (i believe KT posted some pics) where you could almost see the prongs...that's a reach as well mind you, but it's more convincing to me.
we were also told that the strap did have some penetrations in them (at least the jacket that big tony got).......then again, _ commented that the terry leonard jacket had the rectangular sliders. who knows, maybe peter sent it out with d-rings, got changed by nadoolman to 3-bar buckles with prongs, then they didn't like the prongs cuz it kept getting caught on stuff, then went back to rectangular sliders......one fell off so they just slipped it back on like heyjude's configuration cuz uncle george was finishing up his third frappaccino and was antsy for stevie to call action.....who knows??? it's anybody's guess......it's all on how far the jacket nazi in you is willing to reach

Personally I think the two prong buckle on a Raiders is a stretch. I think it looks good on IndyG's jacket though.
When I think of straps on a jacket like that I think of either that kind of two prong buckle or a tri-bar.
When I asked Tony about perforations in the straps he didn't seem to know what I was talking about.
What I do know is he sourced a thri-bar buckle that duplicated what he had in that jacket. The buckle is narrower than the Todd's buckle and has a curve to it, which contributes to the 'raised' center bump when the strap goes through. The strap being thick doesn't hurt either. It's three layers of leather, coincidently just as _ described about the jacket he examined.
Now as for the 'HeyJude buckle', I think it's the way forward with rectangular sliders. They shouldn't be done any other way.

I agree. I have just altered both my Raiders Westeds to the HeyJude configuration. The straps look 100% more accurate now, and show no signs of slipping.
Yet another great find for the community.

I think the way the strap goes through, puling on either end of the strap would tighten it in the buckle.

Brilliant. The 'Heyjude Config' looks great on my ToD and those long straps never looked right until now.

So, you're suggesting that D-rings will not work with a lambskin jacket? Because of the thin hide?
I can't understand why. I had two god-awful lambskin LC's from Wested, and the one thing I couldn't find issue
with were the straps and d-rings. They seemed to hold just fine, and I wore it quite a bit.
The leather did feel fairly thick though, If I remember correctly. Not too different to my G&B goat.
Perhaps that was why they worked ok.

So, that's the evidence that the LC jacket was cowhide? Because the D-rings didn't work with the lamb jackets from RotLA and TOD,
but they worked with the LC jacket? That would be a bit of a stretch.
HOWEVER, since I know you think I like to argue with you _
, I note the last sentence of your last post;
'and mine after having held Ford's in my own lil' hands'. I did not know that you'd actually seen and held the LC jacket.
That being the case, I can understand now how you can say it was cowhide. I could probably tell lamb from cowhide myself.
Therefore, if you say it was cow, i'm inclined to believe you. But I will say that it LOOKS lambskin in some scenes, and a thicker
hide, probably cow in others, my opinion based purely on pics and from watching the film.
My own jacket from Mr. Nowak (still a work in progress) is a Crystal Skull jacket in the CS cowhide, with a few LC touches. I love the
LC jacket, but I wanted a jacket that is still an Indy 4, Tony's creation.
Going off topic here I know, but this is interesting. Probably should be in the LC jacket thread.

Simply put, you folks will see the write-up when it is posted, and no earlier. No facts or meaning will get blurred or diluted. Why so sensitive? It implies tampering by others to an original submitted writeup, and we already have several of those writeups posted in the main gear section. That's why. Stated as a joke or not, we take this part of the hobby VERY seriously, and do not see anything like this as a laughing matter.

Prior to your edit, without seeing your face or understanding your intent as there were no visual indicators of it being a 'joke', no...I was NOT out of line. You assumed too much.
Posts are taken at face value and when not cross referenced with other posts, this is what causes the confusion...but....with your edit, NOW I'm smiling.

I think I know what you mean. If he goes straight, the botom slider will not act the way it does now and will not grip the leather. Apart from that, the exess part of the strap will now be underneath the rest with no possability to get routed in a way it sticks out on top like it's supposed to.
