Which jacket fits me better: a poll!

Post by Nos402 »

I originally ordered a Todd's standard Large, but then thought a medium might actually be a better fit. Now I can't decide which I like better so I thought I'd get opinions here! Here are a set of totally crappy pics to judge by!

Jacket A: a brand new, fresh out of the box Todd's Standard Medium
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/y2 ... directlink
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/17 ... directlink
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/ci ... directlink
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/9w ... directlink

Jacket B: a Todd's Standard Large that's a few weeks old
http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/U6 ... directlink

http://picasaweb.google.com/nos402/Link ... 6899024066
http://picasaweb.google.com/nos402/Link ... 7134265682

They each have their individual quirks due to the way they were folded when shipped. I'm hoping I can rectify a few of them by keeping the jacket laying in a certain position, perhaps pressed under something.

Jacket B, the Large. Jacket A seems just a bit too small, like the quartermaster threw you something and you were stuck with it. Plus, if you ever hope to layer anything under it, the medium will look like a sausage.

I like B a lot. I'm always impressed at how nice Todd's admittedly light jackets look. Also, should you decide to scuff it up a bit or give it some water treatment, it will still fit. (A would not).

Throw them in the dryer and that will knock the kinks out

There shouldbe a third option 'not sure'. In the end I came down on the side of the second jacket. They both look really nice though. I totally apreciate your dilema.

I'd stay w/ the large. If you do the water treatment, it may shrink a smidge...

B for me.........would not recommend either be worn zipped as high as your pics....the jacket appears best when zipped not quite half way ,if you're going to wear it zipped at all........jmo

It's a VERY close call for me, but I have to go with what everyone else is saying B, in the long run may prove the better fit. Especially if you plan to distress/water treat.

They're both nice looking jackets by the way. They look better than the OTR Wested I just sold.

I love A because I like the tighter, fitted "indy" look unless you're a big boy and I think you wear A well. But, if you have to send one back, then wear them both with different clothes and sit at your desk and in the car and turn the steering wheel and then you'll know which one fits you best and that's probably the one you should go with.

my 2 cents. but, in the end, which one is the siren calling your name?

Edit: looked at your pictures again. A looks tight in your biceps in picture 1. B looks better. Does A bind you anywhere?
A definitely seems snug in the arms. They each feel good in their own way, that's my dilemma.

Is the medium their new Medium + ?
If not the new size from the chart appears to be larger, and longer in the sleeves.

If I may ask, how much do you weigh, and what's your jacket size as in 38, 40 and the like? I'm asking for myself, I'm trying to figure out what size I'd need to get. And this could be a nice comparison guide.

I am 5'10", weigh about 170. I think I'm a 40R jacket size (that's usually what I go with but a few times people's measurements have said my chest was 38").

I don't detect a ton of difference, but enough for me to say A is a little tight in comparison to B.

If there was an in-between the two I'd say that one.

I think they both look good but for me "B" wins by a hair. Of course, only you can judge the comparative feel, which should be the deciding factor, since both look great.

Well, I can only go by appearance, and I think that A looks better. It's trimmer and has that "Tailored for you" look. However, I am a strong advocate for comfort. So if A is too tight in any way, consider my vote switched to B. In truth, they both look great, and you might as well be comfortable. If your not, you'll eventually find excuses not to wear it.

Oh, and as for those packing creases - just wear it. The creases will come out. If any are stubborn after a while, wet the area work it out with your hands. :H:

Thanks! I'm slightly taller and weigh a little more than you. I wonder what comparison the Todd's large is to a size 40 or 42.. I need to measure myself.

I'd go with A - it just looks tailored to you, whereas B looks a bit too big. However, as others have said - only if it's not too restrictive and feels good on. If you can afford to, chuck B in a washing machine to shrink and form it a bit if you wear it for the last third of its drying time - it should give you an in-between sizing, but its always a risk.

B gets my vote. I would also recommend getting it wet and wearing it a lot. It will slowly conform to your body and feel good. But if you like the more tailored look of A, I go with that. After you wear it a hundred hours or so, some of those kinks will work themselves out. As long as it isn't too tight.

They look very close. I say keep the one you had and return the new one and buy more gear with the money returned.

IMO, if you can wear A in positions other than standing (sitting, throwing, etc) without it feeling too restrictive then I would probably go for that one. In appearance given the shots that you've shown they both actually look good to me, one maybe more slightly tailored in appearance than the other, so it would come down to comfort. Which one feels best? You know who you are!

I think B looks too loose around the mid area while A looks more tailored for you.

b; looks like its more compfortable, the TS break in very well with just a little use, they look like shower curtains at first, but in a few weeks, maybe a rain shower or two? it starts looking like a fairly nice leather jacket

A- it just looks more Indy to me.

If you need to or plan on wearing your jacket in freezing weather B would allow you to layer a sweater.

It seems odd to me that there isn't more difference between the L and the M.
