TN and LC leather

Has anyone asked TN which leather he feels LC was made with ?? ..... Wondering ( or dreaming) how Shrunken Lamb would look in LC with TN's masterful distressing....

The shrunken lamb would be far too dark, I think.
Ideally, a strong or thick light brown lambskin is what I'd ask for. The Last Crusade jacket still drapes quite well and 'lamby' in most scenes.
It just needs to have an almost matte finish, too, very little shine.
Just my thoughts.

Just why go for a lamb when you can have a cowhide that looks dead on and is even tougher?
The shrunken lamb is quite special. That's different. It's perfect for a Raiders Jacket!
Tony told me the last time that "nothing drapes like lamb"

and you may know that the LC jacket didn't drape much either in the movie.
Before I have placed an order for a TN LC Jacket from Tony I asked him about his Matt Lamb. (TN Raiders #000 Jacket)
http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak- ... 9_7983.jpg
http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak- ... 0_4666.jpg
http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak- ... 8_6524.jpg

I thought this could work maybe for a LC jacket but Tony just said "forget it! it's @#$%!"
So he researched the right looking leather for me. You see it in Han Jones LC Jacket! It's perfect IMO.
What was really important to me from the start the leather must have a Tan color tone when it's distressed!
Without it you can forget a SA looking LC jacket!
What just came into my mind again. Tony said he got 2 LC leathers. Two different cowhides. I don't know how the other one looks.

Orb,yeah, I'm just thinking out loud.....seems like TN can get the tanneries to come up with some very interesting looks......my TN lamb is getting more interesting as it gets worn more....wondering just what he could do with his knack for distressing.........did you talk to him about thin brown goat ?

Am I the only one that remembers _ saying that the LC jacket was actually cowhide? It just strikes me as strange that it seems no one seems to remember this, giving that quite a while ago, everyone was adamant that LC was lamb, then _ said (about his 'bar-time' with Ford):
_ wrote:[Ford's] Last Crusade jacket has held-up well. He has his CS jacket. They feel like they are the same weight. I'm gonna stick my neck out and say the LC jacket is cowhide.
After this, most people took this for fact, and began running with it. And now we're back to people thinking of LC as lamb.

For what it's worth, if _ thinks it's cowhide, then that's good enough for me. The man's done enough research in this field than most of us could ever begin dreaming of, regardless of what some of us may think of him. Couple that with the opinions of leather artisans like Nowak, and you end up with either cowhide, or a very unusual lamb.

yeah Patterosn says its cowhide but the maker says its veg tanned lamb. I think that the maker remembers this.. so I trust that it is lambskin.....

I find that the LC jacket should be a dark brown color. I think that would be the best.

the old dark brown goat or the new soft goat from wested would be very good after you have taken the shine away..

but thats the skin from wested,I know, just thinking outloud........but something in that way would be great for LC IMO.....

it actually did if you really pay attention.. it drapes like a thicker lamb.. but it doesnt drape like a raiders lamb.the only scene were the jacket looks the thickest is in the mtorcycle scene.. almost all other scene it drapes really well.. dessert scene on horse. castle scene. tank scene.....

Im really temtped to let wested make me a LC in the soft goat. the color is inbetween auth and dark brown.. perfect IMO.

and that skin would be most similiar to the old thick lambskin Peter used for the LC jacket...

man Im tempted!

Wow you two... A brick and a duffle bag? That's got to be one heck of a date! :P :Plymouth:

By the way, Orb, I might end up being the guinea pig and ask Tony if I can get a LC jacket in that second cowhide you mentioned made... ;)

I can believe it's veg-tanned lambskin in LC. I had one for a while (now on BillB) and it does drape better than cowhide, but Holt's right, it's different than Raiders lamb - thicker. If Peter had a dark veg-tanned lamb, I think many would be pleased with that.

So the shrunken lamb might be a good call for a Raiders jacket?

Can you tell me anything else about it? I'll be going to see Tony in the next couple of weeks and I'd like to have a better idea than I've got as to what type of leather to get in my Raiders jacket.

Possibly everything you'd want to know (and then some) about shrunken lamb might be found in these threads:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=34025
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=37186
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29960&p=502973#p502973 (My own review!)

The first two links have a few reviews in there, and go in great length about what exactly makes shrunken lamb the "black spidey suit" of Indy jackets! :whip:

Hey Castor... Thanks for those links. Just a couple of quick questions. Are those photos of the jacket when it was brand new? What exactly did you ask Tony to do for you?

I don't want to be rude, but I also don't want to hijack this thread... or at least anymore than I already have! ;)

In response to your questions though: those photos are "straight out of the box", so to speak, and I let Tony do whatever he thought best to the jacket...

Which probably led to something like this...

Ima, would definitely go with his shrunken lamb in your first Raiders......won't get the full 'drape', movement effect otherwise ...I asked for 'little more than light distressing'.....like it had been worn a couple of years....he will give you what you want, put yourself in his hands ,he'll listen to you........ :)

I almost got myself kicked out from this site 3 years back when I was shouting that LC could have been cowhide. _ was in the kicking out team too. Now he thinks it was cowhide. Strange how minds change.

Anyway, as Holt said, maker said cow. Maker has no apparent reason to say cow so I'll go with what maker says.

One thing is for sure, whether lamb or cow, it "looks" like cow from the pics.

PLATON, stop the martyr routine. Folks were observing and posting it could have possibly been cowhide clear back on Indyfan.....LONG before you came on radar or Indygear ever existed. [-X

The confusion started when PETER stated all his jackets were lambskin. Period. It was only due to the recent interviews that things changed direction BACK to cowhide. THAT'S how 'minds work' around here. We can only go by information supplied, and as YOU well know, even when that information is supplied from an iron clad source, people refuse to believe.

For me its sealed, the LC jackets ( the main ones harrison wears) are NOT cowhide. I can tell by the grain of the leather that it is lambskin.

Here's why I think it though:

this is the LC jacket:
Image

This Is a tod jacket which shows similar grain ( we all know the TOD where lambskin )
Image

and here is the grain on the CS jacket which is cow:

And is why I believe the LC is Lamb :)
