Just got my custom washed goat after a four month wait.
So its a size 38 Custom ROLA in washed goat.
First impressions of the jacket when I liberated it from the packeing was, "wow, this is very small, no way will it fit me". But I slipped it on and it fit perfectly. I had initially ordered a 40 but after trying on a few 40s at my local department store I decided to size it down. And I'm glad I did, I would've been swimming in the 40.
I love the feel and look of this leather, very soft and with a "vintage" look. Anyways enough yacking, make with the pictures.
Already getting some "character"

check out the crazy long strap!
http://i424.photobucket.com/albums/pp32 ... /Strap.jpg
My only issues with the jacket are the strap length and that it seems a little short on the sleeves. I was sure I stated the strap length in my order but when I checked back it appears I hadn't. The sleeves are fine as is for the moment, but from what I've read aound here they will ride up, so I'll get them altered and have the straps shotened.
I'm very happy with this jacket and it is the jacket I ordered, would I get the same one now? Perhaps not. I'm eyeing up a TOD now though, and am very intrigued by Tony Nowaks Raiders copy purely from a fit perspective.
I'll get some pics of me in the thing soon as I can.
cheers
Scott

It certainly looks nice, but boy do those close-up pics show some rushed stitching...
How's the squirrel effect? Not there, I hope, but there seems to be a lot of material at the side of the chest area,
which was what caused it, I think, in three of my jackets.

looks great!
don't get the straps cut.. if you want a bit more SA, you'll want to try and feed them one more time through the holders to get the strap pointing backwards.. plus the Raiders straps should be pretty long anyways

congrats on your purchase
I also got one just last week, the character in the leather comes out quickly doesn't it!

Thanks for the comments guys. SA wasnt really my goal here, it was just to get nice Indy style jacket that worked for me and I deffinatly got that.
It certainly looks nice, but boy do those close-up pics show some rushed stitching...How's the squirrel effect?
Stitching seems fine to me, I guess time will tell. There is some flying squirrel, but as I'm not prone to doing aeroplane impersinations I'm not too worried about it

Didnt think of that
Will be sure and give it a go.

Very nice jacket!
I'm looking to get a ROLA custom too size 38. Lets see some fit pics if you don't mind. Could we maybe get some of you special requests? Looks like you have rectangular rings, instead of D rings, did u have to supply to Wested? I've read some stuff they want you to supply like zippers, and different rings depending on your request. And yes, those pockets are awesome! Any details u can provide about them?

Just size, I went with What I'd seen from the various jackets of other folks here and what I though would look good. 7.5x6.25inches
Looks like you have rectangular rings, instead of D rings
Just asked for sliders and they gave me what they had. The only other requests I made were on the collar, I've got a vintage A2 that has a massive collar (70's) so I used that as a reference and scaled it down. 2.75 inches on the tips, tapering down to 2.5inches. And its an 80s cut, which I Believe is standard on this jacket?
I'll get some fit pics up soon as.

You mentioned question about the sleeves possibly being short ......what about pic of you wearing....man those straps are a few inches longer than my OTR, what's their length......shouldn't be any problem once softened up.......good looking jacket...........

congrats to you. really great looking jacket.
but here is my take on it...and I dotn mean to be a wet blacket here.....
but this is just something I wonder about....I dont know how many times wested has made this type of jacket.they should know what the details should be by now....
what I see is that the jacket has a brass zipper and it looks to end about 1.25'' from hem. the back armseam is lined up with the yolk, it should be 1'' below the yolk. the pockets looks like they are placed to low on the jacket too....
other then that Im really happy that you are happy.....

I agree. My first Wested was a custom ROLA. When I got it, it turns out it was really a Raiders which has all those details you mention done correctly. I then ordered another ROLA in a different hide, and I got all those details done incorrectly because it was actually a ROLA. Got it right the third time with a huge list of specs.
I think Wested should just use the Agent 5 specs as the standard ROLA specs. (And offer a Holt collar as an option)

becasue ......they should have carved the ''SA'' specs in their minds by now.. how many jackets has there been made by them? well... ALOT!!
so they
know that the nickel zipper and the armseam 1'' below the jacket is a must on the raiders jackets.....
thats what we fans want when it comes to custom made......
otherwise we could just stick with the non SA of the racks...

but just to ad this.
Im not saying that the jacket he got is not SA. far from it. it is ''sa'' to a certain limit.. but then again.. if you think of it so is my new ''Holt'' jacket...
and just came to think of it... actually
non of the wested jackets ever made have been complelty SA. the TN is completly SA since that is copied from the original screen used....
so.....GREAT jacket my friend.

Just to stress, SA was not my aim with this jacket and as such some of the specs were left to chance (bad idea I know). I've had four months since my order to really get into this hobby and I would suspect my spec list would be quite different now and way more speciffic.
Here are my specs for this jacket.
Collar 2.75" at the tips tapering to 2.5"
Back length 24"
Sleeve length 24" (another quarter to half inch with hind sight would be perfect)
Pockets 7.5" x 6.25" placed 1.5" from the bottom of the jacket, and 1" from the storm flap.
80s cut. the back panel tapers from 17" to 15"
I didnt specify hardware or arm seam placement in relation to the yoke.
I didnt specify strap lenght (although I thought I did) they came out at 9"!!
All these specs are on the jacket as requested, so I got the jacket I wanted. I think I'll be wearing this one for quite a bit before I look at ordering another.
I'll get some pics up of me wearing the jacket soon guys. Thanks for the positive feedback so far though.

Not particularly SA in details or fit but I wasnt headed in that direction.
The straps deffinatly need shortened, unless I'm missing a way of looping them through that makes them shorter? I tried a few different combinations.

Jacket looks really good on. The fit is perfect except maybe the arm length like u had mentioned. Like you said could be another .5" or 1". The collar is awesome, just need to make it fold the opposite way and its golden. Do you mind if I ask how tall you are?

yeah I do wear my jeans kinda low though. The pic with the shirt and trousers is where most folks would wear there trousers usually.
The straps are actually really bugging me, I'm going to have them altered locally, They're pulled real tight in that pic so the length is probably exagerated. I've tried them in various configurations/lengths but ultimatly they are too long I think.
Exit, I'm around 5,9/5,10. The great thing with washed goat is that getting it to take creases is no hassle, I've been scrunching the jacket up and tossing it in the corner when I goto bed and its starting to look well worn, I'm paying particular attention to the collar when doing this.

wow, those ARE long straps.. you weren't kidding.
to loop mine back, I just fed them back through the last part that it comes through.. a yank on it pulls it back out and it hangs loose through the pair of sliders.. another option I just thought of which might hold better is to put the strap through both sliders and then back again through both, and *then* loop it through a single buckle to hold it in place.. I'm going to try that now actually

Thanks for all this info and pics Rover, its helping me make sure my specs are good for my ROLA jacket. Especially the length and back panel, seeing yours and knowing the measurement helps a lot figure out mine.

Thanks Holt.
What hide are you finding you like at the moment?
I'm really liking the washed goat. I've got a biker jacket in cow skin from when I was a teenager that I was never too keen on and I have an A-2 which I also think is cow (no labels so I cant be sure). Both are very thick and feel "tough" although the A-2 is pretty old and has been well worn so isnt as stiff as the biker. What I like about the washed goat is that its still feels tough but is alot softer and is really taking on some nice character.
I was considering distressing the jacket before I got it but now I have it in hand and can see exactly how the leather is reacting, I'm just gonna wear it and do the scrunching I talked about earlier.

Cheers CM. The pockets are a little neat and flat at the moment, working on that.

How do you find the thin goat in comparison to regular goat or washed goat?

its worlds appart from the regular goat.
its just soft,soft and soft.
its like a lambskin only a grade thicker.
its recommended

Cool.
Its a while away but I'd like to get a TOD and want to go with a different hide, I know alot of folks went with the washed goat for theirs but well, I've already got a washed goat
I'm not sure about lamb, never seen it in person but from what I've read it dosnt seem particularly durable.

I am planning on going after a custom washed goat ROTLA. I'm a bit confused as to the amount of info posted around the board as far as what details should be requested to get the most SA version of this jacket possible.
Aside from my own personal measurments, what exactly is the 'list' of special requests to make for this??

If you have a look for Agent 5's specs that'll give you an idea of the type of things people ask for. In fact there is a thread somewhere that contains the spec list for a few members jackets.
Recently Peter at Wested posted that any lists for custom jackets outside the things you put on the order form could be subject to extra charges. So if you are going to provide a list it would be best to contact them first.
