My Penman Photo Shoot (Or... "Let's Get OUTSIDE"!)
Hey everyone,
With the nice weather we had in my part of the world yesterday, I managed to get out (and take my wife and son with me) and get a number of new shots taken wearing my much loved Penman Grey Raiders.
I'm sure a few of you who frequent the "Penman LC?" thread might figure that since Kenton (ksteryous) so ably raised the bar (and threw down the gauntlet) with his GREAT photos, that I must naturally be "accepting the challenge" by posting a few of my own.
Well, that's HALF right...
Look, I'd be lying if I said that seeing those GREAT shots of Kenton outside with that beautiful Last Crusade Penman of his didn't inspire a sense of healthy competition in me... it DID!
But I'm also posting these photos (and LINKS to photos) because I'll shortly be completing a review of the Penman Hat Co. and of my experience in dealing with John Penman (it's to be printed elsewhere as my views HERE are pretty WELL KNOWN)... So, I'd love to get some feedback from any of you who care to share an opinion as to which photo(s) I should offer up to accompany the piece.
Good or bad, please feel free to let me know...
(The key is that I want to show off John's beautiful HAT... so if you think the Penman Fedora looks GREAT in a particular shot, let me know... but no need to tell me if my nose looks strange in the same shot...)
Wait...
No, change that... lemme know if my nose looks strange.
Thanks folks!
Regarding THIS link: I don't think I like this one because it looks like the tree branches are poking INTO the hat.

As always, great shots.. and a great looking hat! What sort of hat is your son wearing in the "fight" scenes?

I think all the shots are great. I took a couple because I'm re-doing my website and will be using one of your shots here.

John I just sent you a pm sort of telling you to feel free to do that very thing.
Glad that you might be able to use some of it.
Randy, it's a sort of cowboy-style "crushable" Wool Felt "Officially Licensed Indiana Jones Hat" - complete with the little pin - that we bought in Disney World last spring... my kid LOVES it! (And before you get the chance to ask: NO, I'm not getting any pictures taken with it on my head!)

Re: My Penman Photo Shoot (Or... "Let's Get OUTSIDE")
Thanks Randy,
It's even got epaulettes. I picked it up at a Sears for 15 bucks. It came in grey, a tan/khaki color and a dark blue. I left the blue but picked up the other two.
(For $15 apiece, they're nice little "close enough" & "in the spirit of Indy"-style shirts!)
Cheers,
Fox

(Chuckle) Now if we could just spread this competition around a little....there's nothing better than outdoor pics of great hats (and almost nothing worse than a poorly taken pic, in low light of a great hat).
Anyway, you asked for our opinions, and for me, I thought the best two were the ones pictured below. To me, they capture the shape and feel of the hat. The others were good, too, but I really liked these two. Great Job! It will be a while before I can pictorially respond to this 'Great Hat Pic of the Week' challenge (chuckle), but I guess you've officially tossed the ball back on the other side of the court, huh??
And doggonit!!!! Now, I want a gray Penman, too.
Regards,
Kenton

Thanks for the kind words, Kenton... I really appreciate your opinion!
(Still lookin' forward to the next time you put up a few shots of that Last Crusade Penman of your's, though!)
And thanks again to all of you who took some time to say a few words.
Cheers,

Awww... I was only ever trying to get over the bar you raised, sir... I never really thought of it like a competition. The fact is, with hats like these, ANY excuse to post a few photos is worthwhile.ksteryous wrote:It will be a while before I can pictorially respond to this 'Great Hat Pic of the Week' challenge (chuckle), but I guess you've officially tossed the ball back on the other side of the court, huh??

You always have nice pics, Mitch, but I especially like the "action" shots with your son this time!

Yep. We're going to report child abuse. Just kidding.
One question, did your grey Penman ship open crown?
Or did you bash it?

You not kidding. I hate the bathroom shots or the arms length shots.
ksteryous and Mitch. I'm using both your guys photo's for my revised web site.
I bashed the hat but Mitch added a little curl on the sides of the brim or at least thats what I see.

Re: My Penman Photo Shoot (Or... "Let's Get OUTSIDE"!)
that looks great on you mitch.........the pic with your boy just hits home the 'dad's hat' labelling of your penman grey.....when one of his friends comes over for a visit and sees your fedora.....he tells him, "that's my dad's hat"
maybe it's something imbedded in me that dad's should wear a hat like that. it's probaby from a previous life cuz my dad never wore a fedora.
congrats on the hat. as always, you wear it well sir

Exactly right, John. I've always been a fan of a little extra curl on the sides... it's just my thing. But OTHER than that one detail, that hat came outta the box lookin' just like THAT, folks!BendingOak wrote:I bashed the hat but Mitch added a little curl on the sides of the brim or at least thats what I see.
Thanks as always, G. I know it won't be tomorrow, but you KNOW I look forward to sportin' one of YOUR hats one day, don'tcha?Indiana G wrote:that looks great on you mitch........as always, you wear it well sir
Thanks, jnicktem! Believe me when I say: 1) It'll be worth the wait... and 2) You'll be SO glad you ordered (specifically) THAT hat from Mr. Penman!jnicktem wrote:Dang it Mitch! John certainly works hard enough at it - and cares enough about how the resulting final product - to warrant such praise... So here's hoping his success in this business matches what he DESERVES for all his effort and hard work!

Yeah Mitch, seeing your pictures, is really exciting me for my Penman. Can't wait to get it! Having your pictures outdoors, really shows just how good his hats really look. And the photo's your wife takes, are great! They are composed very nicely! (is that a word? )

Re: My Penman Photo Shoot (Or... "Let's Get OUTSIDE"!)
Thanks for the compliment, TheExit148.
I feel like I should again give a little credit to Kenton ('ksteryous") for inspiring me to get out into the yard for those photos by posting his own "yard" photos of his Penman LC.
While I've always been a "let's step outside" kinda' guy for photos (when weather permits)... you never know, if I hadn't seen such nice photos by him I might not have ventured beyond the back deck that day...
Now that I see how well those photos worked out, I promise if I ever put together a FULL GEAR shoot, I'll be wandering far from the home to do them justice!

Yes my compliments on a beautiful fedora and awsome pic's.
But dang it, I'm having enough problems picking which color grey Penman to order with out having to see more pic of this paticular raiders grey (just kidding, I'm so leaning towards this grey). Any one have one with his CS grey.

Hi Mitch,
Sorry for joining so late! Man, I dig those photos! I think you have a good lot to choose from, for your review and for John's website.
Now I feel like I really have to take some outdoor pics myself!

And to both yourself and Indy Venkman,
Thanks. I needed to hear a few kind words... they're forming a lynch mob over at Lao Che's just 'cause I've got a good sense of humor.
But if your kind compliments are the last thing I ever read, well... I'll be checking out on a "high note".
Thanks again, amigos!
