First Jacket! Wested Washed Goat

Hey everyone,

Based on all the good comments about the Washed Goat, the fact that Peter made the original jackets for Raiders ("original patterns" caveat aside), and the recent rise of the dollar versus the British pound, I decided to dive in and get my first Indy jacket.

It came in about 4 days, surprising me (I am used to waiting weeks for things from Europe), and as I ripped open the package and took out the jacket, I experienced a moment of panic when I saw how "small" it looked, thinking "this isn't going to fit!" I have an A2 Bomber which is huge compared to the Wested, because it is very much a winter jacket (thick lining) and has a lot of room in it.

To my pleasant surprise, however, it fit perfectly, and looks great on me, if I may say so myself. I could probably even have gone down a size and it would still fit ok. It's not as close-fitting as I would like for a Raiders jacket, but that's probably ok because I want to wear it in cold weather and I'll probably need a sweater underneath or an extra liner because it's such a light jacket compared to my A2.

So, without further ado, here are some pics:

I love everything about it, but it seems lighter and "browner" than some of the other washed goat jackets I've seen posted here and elsewhere. I would like to get that darker, almost greyish cast to it, if possible, to make it more Raiders-ish? What's the best way to accomplish that?

Looks great  Is It standar Raiders or 80's cut?
I want to see the back of the jacket, can you do a pic please?
Congrats for your jacket!!

They certainly did get the measurements right ... I think it looks great without going down in size. Cool jacket, congrats!

Zooom! 4 days HUH? Good job!

A bit of normal pecard dressing works nicely with the washed goat to darken it slightly. But it's nice to knock about in the jacket for a bit first, it will pick up all sorts of highlights.

If you want the sleeves to wrinkle up quickly try a quick wetting with the shower (only 10-15 seconds needed and dry with them scrunched up). Pecard after it's fully dried.

Thanks for the kind words, guys! dirtyepic129, it is a standard cut. I was afraid the ROLA, or 80's cut, would be too slim for me. Here are some pics of the back, too.

KT Templar - I'll give the Pecards a try after a while, like you said. It's already picking up some nice highlights, because of the matte finish on this washed goat. I'm not sure I have the courage to get it wet in the shower, but we'll see. :[

Can't I give you a little nudge? :)

Only pulling your leg my friend, it looks great, and that yoke/armseam position is very good.

looks great! even though it has that dark spine thing down the back, it's hardly noticeable.. I have one of those on my sleeve of all things.. I just gave mine a tumble in the dryer on low heat for 10 minutes.. looks a bit darker now and is much less new-feeling

That looks great. I'm also skeptical about getting the 80s cut. Even though you have a sweater on, it doesn't look all that big on you. But you're right, the Raiders is supposed to be slimmer but we're (Americans mostly, I would think) not too accustomed to have things too slim or form-fitting.

I'm 6'1", 240 (working on it as I'm down from 250) with a 50" chest. I had a ROLA and, while it fit fine, it was a little more snug than I was used to. The Raiders I had felt more comfortable (although both fit, if that makes sense).

Orl, no I didn't specify anything. It is an off-the-rack jacket (OTR), not custom.

Piers, I didn't even notice that "dark spine" thing until you pointed it out. It's actually hard to see "in person" - it must be something about the light and the camera that made it show up like that. When I lay the jacket down I really can't see it unless I'm looking for it so it doesn't bother me.

It's funny.. I gave my washed goat a quick shower, wear around and then tumble dry yesterday.. this morning I wore it to work and when I put it on the back of my chair, I noticed I have the same thing.. maybe it's the office lights that are brighter, but there it is.. it's more noticeable when looking top down.. guess we'll just have to drag ourselves around behind a truck or something ;)
