but after about a week I realized I want to do things different. My friend suggested getting the hat drenched (like if you were to go out into the rain) even though indy gets it wet like that I didn't like that idea in terror of wrecking my hat so I tought about stem bashing. what is your guys opinion should I get it completely wet or go with steam???
Please give suggestions on the bashing job or do you think it is fine as is?
Thanks

go with steam.
not only is is a quicker method but I've heard it reinstates stiffener
so it wont make your hat too flopitized.
and maybe lower the front of the crown bash a tad. and sence yur
gonna rebash the whole thing why not put some "turn" on it to
get that SA swooping Raiders brim.
btw if the steam isn't thick enough to really soften up the felt
to easily bash it, then put foil over the pot and poke a 1 in
hole in the middle of your foil cover.

I see you have a Christys´, I don´t think you really need to use steam to change or refine your bash. First I would try to do it dry and then only if really needed use a little bit of water. That should be enough.

oh i see now, that is a Christy's. i can tell by the ribbon sewing and bow.
Then in that case i would keep the bash dry and definatly
DO NOT SOKE IT for sure. You should still consider some "turn" for
the right brim shape, it will look especially good when that christy's
becomes really floppy.

Don't even put a glass of water next to it.

You don't need steam or water to refine the crease in a hat. Just play with it for a couple of days and it will begin to take on your own flair. And for a Christy's, I definately woldn't steam it. If you are having trouble with the crease, just sprinkle a little bit of cold water on the troublsome area and then have at it. Never purposely drench your hat. Why put it through the unecessary abuse? Just wear the thing and it will begin to transform into "your hat."

sorry you guys that I didn't specify earlier but this is not a chritys' hat
in fact this is a hat from the UK it is found on a web site called the movie shop
http://www.themovieshop.com/
sorry again and now what is your opinion
(I went with the $48 dollar hat if you were wondering)

hmmm, that 48 dollar one seems to be a wool felt hat.
In that case spraying some water on the spots needing
bashing would do just fine. and steam, but i still don't
think drenching is such a good idea.

That hat is indeed a Christy's. If you look back a bit, you'll find that two or three members here purchased the wool versiona dn were quite happy with it. I think it looked pretty good for a wool hat. For some reason, The Movie Shop no onger advertises them as Christy's but rest assured, that is a Christy's. I could tell that bow work anywhere; I have one. All the suggestions mentioned about not steaming or wetting the hat excessively are good ones and still apply to your hat.
