guess the hat

Okay, don't guess because I made it. A friend of mine found this 10x beaver cowboy hat for a dollar at a thrift store and gave it to me. I soaked it in the tub and reshaped it, cut the brim down, and put on the grosgrain ribbon (walmart 99ยข). It's still pretty darn stiff and I'll probably redo the ribbon at some point. But I like the imperfections of it, even the crappy trim job on the brim. It's my new friend.
If you want go ahead and guess the brand.
The clue is it's from a midwest leather factory that sold out to Wilson's years ago.
Oh, and the liner is the color of Indy's wedding scene.

And what does one of those official wool DPs go for? That's hilarious. Two bucks and a coupla hours ( that I'm sure were entertaining ) to get a far more SA hat - and actually useful, to boot. Nice job....

That looks pretty good. Great work!
You'll be competing with Steve, Marc and John in no time.

Did you have to do anything to the crown height or was it pretty much the same?
I'll be going to the jacket section now...

It's as tall as my AB, so nothing was done to the crown height.
I wish I would have taken a before shot, because it was just a big brown cowboy hat.
By the was it is a Berman's and has a leather sweatband.

There's actually a picture of this exact kind of hat on e-bay. It's a BERMANS PEDIGREED MOLESKIN COWBOY HAT HAND FINISH THOROUGHBRED TEN X QUALITY CUSTOM MADE, if your interested in seeing it. Warning: It ain't pretty.

Man, that felt looks super thick, looks like it'll stop bullets!
Nice job on the reshape though. I think any hat that is still wearable should get a new life. I had two westerns from my rodeo days that I didn't wear anymore and had them reshaped & given a new life. Good job!
Cheers!

I used to be able to get a Resistol 'Westerner' hat from Sheplers about that color back in the day for 50 bucks a pop...........ruined a bunch trying to get the dimensional brim just right........

As requested.
The felt is thick. Bulletproof is just about right as a description.
A little taper to it which, dare I say, I don't mind.

Can't beat those prices.. and looks pretty nice, too. That's some thick felt, is the hat heavy?

That is a great hat; it looks like something a world traveling, swashbuckling, daredevil explorer would be proud to wear. Very, very Indiana Jones! One of the best Indy hats I have is one I made from a 10x cowboy hat. Well done, and well photographed! Perfect color!

It looks a lot like the Cairo hat. I'd love to see it on your head. Nothing wrong with the current "on head" you've got though!
