Magnoli Pankot Bowtie

Here's a few pictures of a Magnoli Pankot Bowtie I got for Christmas. I've been pretty busy and unable to take pictures for a while but finally got around to it, and after a few tries (the tie is a little thicker than the bowtie I learned on), I managed to get it looking pretty darn good, or at least acceptable, if I may say so myself. The past few times I've tried it with this particular tie, the knot in the middle has been larger than I've liked. Anyway, please excuse the serious face - the camera was acting up a little.
The inset has a better representation of the real color, I think.
Anyway, the tie is very nice silk, and feels like it's probably worth more than the price Magnoli is asking. ($40, IIRC) Not your average tie, and it has a very nice vintage looking (and screen accurate!) pattern on it. The size is adjustable via a little clip on the backside of the thin part, and has quite the range of lengths, from Callista size to Taft size. So if you're thinking about picking up one of these ties, they're just fantastic. I can't wait to get my new Todd's shirt so I can switch the buttons to darker ones and match this thing up with a nice tweed jacket!

Great tie! I'm doubly impressed that you know how to tie it yourself! You look very distinguished and... older. Yes, now, is that because of the tie or because of your
birthday?

Probably a combination of the birthday and the glasses!
Thanks a lot! I love tying neckties, learning different knots (I prefer a small, neat Windsor knot, for those into ties too), and I also like getting dressed up, so this thing is a lot of fun for me.

And a bit shorter, isn't it - that's at least my feeling. But once you're used to it, it works well.
I can totally second what you said about the tie - a most beautiful piece of wardrobe which convinces with its quality.
And - you're looking quite dashing in it, Shane.

Full or half windsor?

Shane, don't take this the wrong way because I'm just trying to be helpful, but that tie is horrible! You should send to me IMMEDIATELY so that I can take it off your hands. See what a nice guy I am?
jk- the tie looks AWESOME!!! Very nice!!!

Shane,
The proportions of the tie look just right to me.
Good show. Looks great on ya.

I love mine, and strangely enough, I honestly can't believe how many times I've actually worn it just out to things. Definitely more than I figured when I bought it.
I just picked up a 'new' vintage (probably 50's) tweed jacket to wear it with.
If I haven't thanked you before, Thanks Magnoli!

Looking good McFly. But you HAVE to shave off that soul patch!
They're SOOOO yesterday!
Grow some friendly chops (long muttonchop type sideburns connected to a mustache, but with a shaved chin) instead like me and Michaelson! When I first grew it out, a friend at work said I looked like a dead president!

I was asked if I was Amish.
I'm back to a handlebar moustache now, but may grow the brush back this summer. Haven't made up my mind yet.
Nice looking tie there, Shane! I used to wear handtie bowties all through high school and college. Haven't owned one for quite a while. I'm a full Windsor knot man myself when it comes to standard ties.
Regards! Michaelson

I'm angling for one of these myself. Never a doubt as to Magnoli's quality, but it was nice to see a writeup....Thanks!

I want one of those so badly, but alas; it actually doesn't reach my size!

I wonder if Magnoli could do a custom one for you, Chewie. Have you ever thought to ask?

Thanks for the compliments, folks! I think being a little OCD about my ties has that one advantage. The disadvantage is that they can take a long time to tie if I'm not completely happy with it.
I think I may be tempted to wear the thing out to non-gear events, now that I have one that's not so formal.
Chewie - Talk to Tony! I'm sure he can make you a custom one. After all, he's a custom clothier!
Minnesota - the soul patch's all I can do!
Bartram - Thank you kindly! I'm debating making it a little longer as I think I can get the knot smaller if I do that, but I'm pleased with this size anyway.
Jens - it's half an inch shorter than the black silk one I have. How could you tell?!
Oh, and Jens wrote:Full or half windsor?
The GOOD Windsor! I don't like the half windsor as I think it's more apt to being crooked or slanted. The other one I like is the Pratt or Shelby knot. It's interesting because you start with the tie facing backwards, so the tags and all that are on the outside.

Hey McFly,
Quick question on that comment (not trying to take us TOO far OT): I know the Todd's shirts are now available longer than they were before... (although same color as always, from what I understand...) but are you saying that the buttons are also darker?
Or did you mean "Once I get a newer Todd's shirt I'll be replacing the buttons with darker, more Temple o' Doomy buttons?
Or... what?
Curious (and still learning),
Mitch

In fact, the shirt came today and I'm picking it up again on Saturday with the ToD buttons installed!

Oh yes, I know that exactly.
Never ever start tieing your bowtie just before you plan to leave. Always calculate a bit extra time for trimming.
Jens - it's half an inch shorter than the black silk one I have. How could you tell?!
Oh, I just noticed this with my own ties.
When I first tried to tie my ToD bowtie it was abit more complicated when I experienced it with the black silk one. Turns out the first one's a bit shorter, making the last step of tieing a bit fiddling.

Good boy.
I can totally follow ...

Aha! Looks like the knot in the center of yours is a little large too. Maybe I won't worry about it then. Your tie looks nice, too!
