Bashing help.

Post by Man Hat Tan »

I finally got my Fedora.......It is the FED IV Deluxe.

It looks beautiful and I am very afraid to even do anything to it.

Can somebody help me with the right tutorials on how to bash it.

I did "search" and can't seem to find a good working links.

TIA.

A

This is the best tutorial I've seen. The best way to tackle it is to just go for it and crease the hat the way that feels best for you. Indy won't be wearing the hat, you will. Make it your own.

Never assume. Now I don't feel so dumb. :rolling:

I would say is to put the hat on your head and look in the mirror. If you are going to have the turn in. Why wouldn't you. It's a Raiders hat. :D

Grab it by the brim and turn the hat to bring the bow up to the front a little ( left to right). Try not to let the mirror image mess with you. have a pics of the screen hat with you ( front shot). Ounce the hat brim looks like the one in the photo. stop. Then put in a light center crease in the top. take it off your head and then crease the top front to a height of 4 3/4 and the back to the height of 4 1/4. Ounce this is in start with the front pinch. Put it in but not to tight so you can adjust later. use photos of side shots to see how the side should look. Use the link that is posted here to help out. The thing to do with the hat you have is to get the turn in and the center crease height front and back . Everything else is just following what you see.
Hope it helps, let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

After all these times, I finally had the gut to bash my fedora due to I need to wear it to the Starfest this weekend.

At first I thought about using the mirror as seen in one of the tutorials. But it will be a lot easier to use my wood floor
I just line it up against the woodgrain in front of me and turn it a little bit to my right. Then start with the center top and push it down to get the curve and angle that I like - higher to the front and lower to the back. After I satisfy with the center curve, then I start pinching the left and then the right.

Please CC if I need more work to make it more Raiders.

On another note, I also got my gloves fully weathered from working in the yard over the weekend

Here some pics.

Well, if you want the Raiders look, I would say you have to bring the side dents forward a bit, they shouldn't go that far back on the crown, tighten the front pinch and I'd say you are ready to go.

Az, the Raiders bash is known for being pinched right together in the front, so that both dents meet in one neat pinch. Also, the dents should not go down below the ribbon. I'll check to see if I can find a good pic for you, but to fix up your bash, I would say pinch the middle together more, and don't make the dents go down so low.

Perhaps someone else can explain it better using more appropriate terminology. This is the only way I can think to explain it.

Also, don't forget the the brim in front tilts down, while the brim in back tilts up. They should not be level (in other words, you should not be able to put it on the floor at all, because the front brim would be popped up.

Here's a pic:

Notice how tightly pinched it is in the front, and how the dents stop just above the ribbon?

I hope this helps.

Hey Oak, there is something wrong with your link. It is abbreviated and only the first part is a hyperlink.

Thanks Dan and every one else.

Yeah I am going to work on it again tonight. Do some tight pinching on the upper front crown and roll the front and rear brim.

OK guys, for the sake of SA, I rebashed my fedora. I tighten the pinch using clothepins. Then I let it set at 45 degrees overnight so the front brim will curve down.

Let me know what do you think.

Big improvement, I like it! But with this bunch, you have to get headshots. ;)
