I was corresponding with Sgt. Hack about the ToD jacket and he wanted me to post this here. I've just copied and pasted from his email.
Please also post that next week we are coming out with a US Wings Flag Label Line!! We have been working on a G-1 Military Spec and a A-2 2000... Both Jackets will be made of Mil. Spec materials 100 %. Now comes the best news ever... the Price for the A-2 is $ 175.00 plus S/H and the G-1 is $ 195.00 Plus S/H I will not offer any longs with this Run... These Jackets will be made in My Factory here in the USA.... " There is not a company in the World can and will offer this American Made Jacket for this price" Members of COW may place their orders now through e-mail with name and height and weight.. Please no credit card information and yes we will ship world wide.... e-mail me at info@uswings.com we will ship this limited offer this month.
I've been wanting to pick me up a G1 for a while now (for my Starsky look 8) ) so I'll probably grab one of those as I don't see how you could beat the price for that quality of jacket.

Also, the ToD jacket is getting really close to go. I'm going to check in with the production manager to double check where we stand. As soon as I know they're ready to take orders, I'll post it in the Wings ToD thread.

Thanks for teh heads up on that. I went ahead and placed a pre-order

Sgt Hack asked me to post this
Now for some information... The US Military contract pays $ 195.00 for the G-1 and they pay $ 175.00 for the A-2.. Both made in the USA.. By US Wings Inc. The Goatskin comes from Pakistan Per US Military contract due to the fact US Goatskin is very small.!!
I honestly think once we release this information next Fri. on our web site we will no doubt have a major run on them.
Myke will keep a record of all COW members and e-mail the members when we are ready to ship.. Members will have first call. Please post!!

Regards,
Sgt. Hack

Looks like a good deal! Thanks for posting! :M:

Other than lower price, is there a difference with these from their standard line?

Darn it! No longs will be made. ](*,)

I was eyeing the WWII Goatskin G-1 as well but had the same issues with no longs. With military fit jackets, I need longer sleeves.

I can relate to being accused of an 'agenda'

I didn't know the military actually use the A2 2000 but guess they must.

Gah! I just paid $250 for my A2-2000 about a month ago, but it was a long, so I guess I didn't really miss out on a deal.

My jacket is great; I think folks will be very happy snapping them up for under $200 apiece!

@#$%! I just bought an A-2 2000
What does this part mean.. "will be made of Mil. Spec materials 100 %"?? Were they not before?

What's a flag label line?

I'm confused too, I thought they made mil a spec jackets before and even stuff the miltary could really wear. :?

It read to me like a re-emphasis of the fact their stuff is always 100% mil-spec....even the civilian versions. :-k

That's the way I read it too is that this new line will be up to mil specs as well. I don't know how the flag label will differ from previous versions.

Isn't yours 'VIP' line though?

The VIPs are all hand selected hide, hand sewn, and go through a more stringent multiple inspection system as I understand.

If that was the case, US Wings quality control stunk because his first jacket was very flawed with different sized pockets.

For those of you that recently bought your jackets, you aren't saving much ($50?) by buying a jacket now as it it quickly gets too warm to wear; than buying it a month or two ago.

It does sound like US Wings might be trying to streamline their product line. I wonder if the "blue labels" will be the less costly jacket line while they maintain their VIP and special limited editions as their premium line.

No..

and as much as I love my jacket, both of the ones I received (had to return the first) had pretty obvious flaws...

You might want to call and give them your measurements. The original government contracts always had extra length built into them and in general, G-1’s are long in the sleeves and length.

The noticed the explaination of what the 'black labe' means is included as well:
"Black Label" refers to the label placed in our "value line" of US Wings products, all of which offer high quality & high value

I just can't understand USW. They offer two new budget jackets but he A2 is a "normal" fit with hand warmer pockets while the G1 is "military" fit without the handwarmer pockets. ](*,)

Every USW jacket I'd like never seems to have the features I want, while the style I don't want has all the features I want.

I noticed 'Black Label' but thought it was supposed to be 'Flag Label'?

According to Sgt Hack both are the exact jackets they make for the Government contract, just re labeled.

So the A2-2000 design (with side-entry handwarmer pockets and internal pocket) is mil-spec now?

I'm confused. :-k

Well, they're supposed to have the patch pockets. The side-entry handwarmer pockets are another matter, but I've found them to be pretty inconspicuous on my A2-2000.

ehh? that still makes things confusing.. was it NOT government issue before?

as in

1) the government didn't use the one with handwarmer pockets etc

OR

2) the a2 2000 has been improved with better military quality/specs?

The A2000 was never government issue, but with the allowance of the government to servicemen to purchase their own jackets, they've allowed the A2000 to be used by active service men now. They've never accepted side entry pockets on their jackets before.

K that makes sense then.

I'm hoping the A2 2000 I bought had better leather quality/construction though for the price difference. I'm assuming it would since they specifically put that black label on the lower priced one.

I still can't wait to get more jackets..

Actually, from Sgt Hack
Yes the A-2 2000 is Current Mil. Spec with side entry pockets.. The Old Die Hard Customers how ever want the WW11 Look with out side entry pockets... This offer is the A-2 2000 with side entry pockets.. Sizes from Small to 3X Reg. The G-1 does not have side entry pockets and 100 % Mil Spec. sizes 36 to 52 Reg.
Thank you for posting on COW... I am sure you made a lot of Fans very happy.

Not sure what your point is. :-k There wasn't anything in your addition that contridicts anything I said above regarding the A2000. Just because something is mil spec doesn't mean it's government issue.

Sgt Hack was responding to my question to him
Is the A2-2000 now an actual military issue item?
My only point was that according to him the jacket is 'issue' not just mil-spec.

I'm surprised it is issue but I have no reason to disbelieve him

Re: US Wings A2 and G1 news

It's not an issue, but apparently a 'failure to communicate' on my part.

The military used to issue ALL clothing worn by in -service military personnel. It wasn't until the late 80's that they loosened up that requirement, specificially when it came to flight jackets, as long as they were mil-spec and within military guidelines.

I have one Army Apache helocopter pilot fresh from his second tour of duty in Iraq, going through his masters in aviation systems program here on campus, who WEARS a Wings A2000, purchased himself, that he uses for that very purpose.

So, military issue, no, but military USED by private purchase...absolutely!

Does my post make more sense now? ;)

Your post made sense the first time. I understand the military and the differences between 'issue' and 'authorised' items. That's why I asked Sgt Hack if the A2 2000 was now 'issue'. He replied it is, but perhaps he just didn't distinguish the 'authorised' part of the scenario? I thought since he is a government contract holder and supplier he'd have the answer .

Hard to say. With the new administration in place, it's hard to say WHAT'S what anymore, as all the rules changed, and continue to change on a daily basis. (and no...that WASN'T a political commentary.....they ARE changing daily... ;) )

I was given a practically new USW indy jacket during the filming of TOTT by one of the cast. The tag said 'Gaot' but it felt like lamb. Within three weeks the stitching at the hand warmer pockets were giving out and there were holes in the ...leather? On my only 2 days off I made a trip to England and got a Wested Goat. The USW ended up with a friend who was chilled on night.

Based on that and a few other minor experiences I doubt I will buy any pleather products from USW unless their QC has some divine intervention.

I recently gave my G&B Civil G-1 goat to a dear friend NOT because of QC (I have never had QC probs with that Co.) but because I recently bought an ANJ-3 goat from G&B and for me it replaces the comfort of the G1 while giving my cut of the A2.....
I'd wear my G&B ROTLA goat more but I got it sopping wet and now it's a bit snug.

Raising prices during a recession doesn't seem the best way to move product.

Mileage varies, I suppose. I had a US Wings CE that I would have put up against almost any jacket I've owned as far as toughness is concerned.

Sorry the Wings didn't work out for you. Some jackets just don't make the grade for some reason. I know PSB Indy has had trouble with the stitching on his Todd's Standard but others have beat theirs from here to eternity with no adverse effects. :-k

Indeed. I've had an A-2 2000 from USW for about four months now and it doesn't show a spot of wear--even after accidentally zipping my car keys across the surface of the leather!

Perhaps the faulty jacked was one of those foreign-contract-made jackets that USW had for a while?
