Blockhead: An Experiment -

Anyone else tried this? I took my Akubra Adventurer, ran it under the sink, then flipped it over an filled the crown with water. I dumped the water out, then pulled the hat down - all the way down - over my head. I put a towel over the crown and pushed and smoothed out the old shape. I let it air dry for a bit, then put the current creases in while it was still damp. I didn't have any particular expectations, but it came out, I think, pretty alright.

I've got two pretty nice Indy hats now, possibly a third on the way. That's all I need - unless of course the perfect one comes along .
This was my first Indy-esque hat but, in terms of costuming, I've graduated to better things. It's still a great hat, but I don't have to worry about it being anything more than my rough-housing hat now. Any time I think of some experiment, I can take it out on this hat. I read elsewhere that someone dyed their hat using hair dye. That my be the next trick; maybe the ribbon, too. Heck, it may end up being a pretty decent stunt hat.

Hey, it works! I would love to have seen you doing it! And I agree with Dan, it looks broken in!

I used a folgers coffee can, the big plastic ones, and put a towel around it and placed a hat sponge on the top and used that to reshape a hat. Its amazing what a little ingenuity does. That hat looks pretty good to me. What did it look like before? That would really let us see how it worked.

You might have started something dangerous, people are going to start running into walls trying to reshape their hats.

I know someone who used a bucket as a block - worked quite well too.

a five gallon bucket for a ten gallon hat?
