Just what it says -
Want to get fairly SA cavalry twill for some pants I am having made.
Does Keppler offer pants? His site is still down.

C'mon, Gang! I have the chance to have some Raiders pants custom made. But I want to use the perfect material, heavy, cavalry twill.
Does ANYONE know where to purchase this material.
I know that it can be pricey, yes.

I know this won't sound very helpful, but it seems to me that a tailor would be your best bet for sourcing the material. If they don't have it they ought to have the ability to find it.

You could check with some British military tailors particularly in London. I don't think a lot of them have web sites but a few do.
A web search might bring up a textile mill.
Also check with a British company called Hobson and son. They supply all sorts of military accouterments and items of uniform.

Check some of the british companies that cater to traditional hunters. I've seen some cavalry twill pants there as well.

Hi darth,
If you are in the US try this:
http://www.wovenfabrics.com/. You should select uniform fabrics-wool\poly blend cavalry twill(taupe)
If you are in Europe try to ask Platon. He has a big list of suppliers.

Before anyone runs out and buys uniform fabric from
http://www.wovenfabrics.com, take a look at the site closely. The fabric looks great in the photo, but it is a wool and poly blend. This fabric usually pills up after some hard wear, and doesn't breathe the same way a 100% wool fabric would do. Close enough, but I will have to look eleswhere.

I have a pair of pants I am going to use as a pattern for a pair of Indy pants so I just bought a few yards of this wool twill fabric
http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/catal ... tmID=XX198
Compared to a pair of Wested pants I have the color is a bit lighter and the material is not as heavy, but I think it'll work really well. The site does not send swatches, but does allow you to buy 1/8 yard as a sample which is what I did as a cheap way to check the fabric.

Indiana Jeff

Interesting. I just found some stuff that is great but just a tiny bit too dark over here at the local tailor. Hmmm.
Years and years ago I was able to borrow a pair of I.J. pants made by Berman's/ Nathans and had them duplicated in 1989. In terms of cut and cloth they are perfect but they are too dark. I still use them as trousers but hoping for more SA cloth.
Again, if I get any good news I'll forward it along.
I have an appointment at the tailor tomorrow and will see what he says.
Thanks, guys!

I have made some internet searches and inquires to find the right wool Cav twill. The one factory mill source I found has a minimum order of 700 yards. Now I could divide that number by the number of members who want pants and I should come out ahead right? They told me who they sold their fabric to, and the jobbers do not carry the fabric we are looking for. They carry the cav twill, but it is a wool blend used for uniforms. Everything's good except for the blend part, and the 700 yard deal.
If anyone has a source that is reliable, please speak up so we can give them some business. I'd be happy ordering the fabric from England if need be, but I do not know of such a place to find the correct fabric.
