Mr. Botwright did good!

Today, I got my new Wested Goat! \:D/

Yeah... I'm a happy boy.

I went through a couple international phone cards, mostly spent in my checking up to see about the corner they were in, due to their supply of goat skin being backlogged, but in speaking with Peter and using no other form of communication (other than to send measurements and requests), I'm convinced there's no other way to order a custom jacket. Talking to the man and getting his input is the only way to do it.

And custom is the word for it.

This is me in my old off the rack goat (shoulder pads included), size 44 and after wiping with alcohol and wetting it...

Image Image

And this is the new one, right out of the box...

Image Image

Because the navy blue t-shirt I'm wearing, gives a false sense of where my waist line is, I painted a beige line at the approximate spot of where the tops of my pants are.

And these following photos, will pretty much show what I'm talking about with their custom specs...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/ ... G_4908.jpg - front (full)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/ ... G_4909.jpg - left side
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/ ... G_4910.jpg - right side
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/ ... G_4911.jpg - back
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/ ... G_4913.jpg - left underarm
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/ ... G_4914.jpg - right underarm

In those pictures, notice:
- The placement of the sleeve seam and where it meets the yoke
- The gusset I asked Peter to add
- The stitching on the strap, as well as the hardware
- The brass zipper and it being on the right side
- Collar size and length
- The smaller size of the pockets
- The "V" shape to the back panel

What I didn't take pictures of, are the satin sleeves I asked for and the low profile/slit inside pocket, with just the little bit of leather on the top of the pocket edge.

I'm currently wearing the new one right now, after doing the whole washing thing with it, and getting the collar and sleeves right. But I'll post pics of the outcome tomorrow.

So?

What do you guys think? I'm mailing out a special gift for him in the morning, for him to hang on his wall. He's certainly earned it.

In all of my reading and what I've gotten from it, is that a standard fit is a straight cut to the back panel and an 80's fit is a tapered cut to the back panel, right?

I asked Peter to taper the back, so that it didn't look like the picture I sent him, of how my first jacket looked from behind. I'm happy with it. Whatever it's called... I like it. :)

And I know the zipper being on the "wrong" side isn't accurate, nor is the brass zipper itself... But I just can't get used to the zipper being on the left side, nor did I like the contrast of the nickel/aluminum zipper. And satin sleeves just make more sense to me. Especially when I throw the jacket on quickly, I don't want it to get hung up somehow, on a cotton sleeve lining.

I'll get some pictures up real soon. I'm just trying to get it wrinkled and less shiny.

On a side note... My wife and daughter (who's 12) are telling me I look silly in a jacket that's so short. They say it's just not in style these days and it looks like I've got a motorcycle jacket on. :-k

It's the right length, based on all the gazillions of pictures we've seen on Harrison Ford, in Raiders.

Is it too short on me? I thought the other one was way too long.

no it doesnt look to short.

remember that this is an Indy jacket. YOU are the only one that knows HOW it is suppose to be. your wife and kid are not into this hobby so dont expect them to know how long or short the jacket is suppose to be.

Indy jackets doest follow the fashion.

For what it's worth, I think they both look good Echo.
The shorter jacket is probably more accurate, though I'd prefer to wear a slightly longer one.
Either way, those are two pretty nice jackets from Wested; you're one of the lucky ones!
Give the new jacket some time, it may settle on you a bit.

Then they never seen a short motorcycle jacket :D
I think your jacket has the right length! This jacket should be on the shorter side. It's not a coat.
Well then what's in style these days? It all depends on what you like and what you want to wear.
I have bought two non indy leather jackets a while ago. They was even more expensive as a Wested and they both have the length of the indy jackets.
And yes those jackets are in style today!

I think it's a good length for an Indy jacket. I usually go for a little longer length than what's SA because I like them that way, but yours looks good with Ford's length.

Start asking them if they're planning on joining the circus since they're wearing clown shoes and are they really going out in public with that blouse?

...okay, don't really, but it's a fun thought isn't it? ;)

Great looking jacket Echosix. I believe if I order another Wested I am going to use the phone as well to make sure I get everything I want out of the jacket.

Cool. Thanks guys. I don't have the "fan" support in the house, which I think we can all understand. Not a lot of people "get" the attention we put on stuff.

And it's 24 1/2" from the collar, to the bottom edge.

Front or back?

Well, what I did was I showed Peter what the first jacket looked like on me (the same pictures, plus more, that are in my first post) and told him what length it was and how much shorter I wanted it. I gave him an approximation to go off of and told him I trust his judgment beyond that.

I also showed him my butt...

Image

...in my old jacket, that is.

And that measurement I gave was of the back back. The front could maybe be about an inch longer though... But I'm attributing that to the amount of yummy food I eat, which may be causing the front o fht e jacket to stick out a bit further than it's supposed ot. :P  It's a good initiative to lay off the steak, beer, butter, bread, etc...

Or not.

so it's 24.5" at the back then? What is the front measurement?

Do you think it looks short? You are the one who has to wear it, so
its you who should be happy with the way it fits.

A normal size 44 regular should have a back length of about 25
inches or so, so yours is about a half shorter than normal.

It all really depends on how tall you are.

I wear a size 44 regular, and I had the back length of my Wested
Authentic Lamb made to 26 inches.

I am 6 feet, 1 inch tall, and that is pushing it to me for being on
the short side.

Butt (pun intended) if you like it the way it is now, then just enjoy
it. Its a nice looking jacket.

The only time its really going to look out of place, or funny, is if
you wear a shirt that you do not tuck into your pants, and the
shirt hangs down way past the bottom of the jacket.

Then its going to look really short.
