Akubra Fed IV or Christy's Adventurer, whats better?
Hi I'm looking to get another Fedora but in grey and it's between fed IV reg or Christy's adventurer. Which one would make a better Indy style grey clipper hat?
( btw you can find christy's adventurer at hornetshats.com )
Show pic comparisons if you have them.

Christy's, IMO, has the best Clipper 'grey' color. I believe it's the "burma" color on their website.
Yep, found the thread

Erri found this,,it is THE best version of the color, to me, as it has a somewhat 'taupe' look as well, just like the movie hat. Check out Erri's pics, it's spot on.

I've never owned a FED IV but honestly by pictures I don't care a whole lot for it.
I do how ever own a Christys and its the best Indy hat I've owned so far. After a re-block on my own hat block I made I achieved the light bulb effect with an LC bash and brim style. It's a great hat, but can't really take alot of abuse or beating, without a bit of tappering, that is one reason I re-block my hat on regualar occastions. But other than that its been my best hat, at least till I save up a bit for my AB.

For a grey clipper hat I would definitely take the Christy´s in Burma. I´m still impressed when I see Erri´s pictures

Do you intend to really wear it? Both my fed IV's, a carbon grey and a mid brown, have taken showers without a bit of taper. The grey is my go to daily hat since I got it with the intentions of not minding if it absorbed some day-to-day damage and exposure to paints, charcoal etc. that I use almost daily.

If you plan to use it as a dress hat or special occasions, than I'd go with Christy's. But if you plan on using it daily, Akubra would be the best choice.

Thanks people for pointing out my thread. If the colour (burma) might be (understandably) still center of discussion, of one thing you can be sure... you can't go wrong with the block-shape, the Christy can give a dead-on clipper look that you will hardly get anywhere else.
Judge for yourself
forget the wrong bow-work and the lighter colour of the ribbon, those will be changed
hornetshats also offer real grey colours so if you're not convinced with the burma you might want to go for the real-grey options. As for the blockshape though, you just don't get any better than this.

well i do intend on making this my " wear every day hat " but i don't
plan on abusing it or getting it rained on, especially living in Arizona.
though i do want to use some steam to help reinstate the bash i give it.
So I'm leaning toward the Christy's for its spot on color. but I've heard a lot
about how the Christy's can taper right out of the box , so in that sense
I'm still leaning toward the fed. never heard any complains on immediate taper with
them.
what a dilemma

Another member, LPA53, has commented in the past about the Fed Carbon Gray as to its tendency to 'change colors' under certain lighting conditions. Apparently, sometimes it can look a forest green, a steel blue color to some shade of gray. Here is the post:

never noticed the back of that clipper hat till now. it looks to be a different block than the raiders hat.

If your Christy's arrives tapered just send it back and they will replace it for you free of charge. As for the colour, I should warn you that the burma is green... sort of it's hard to figure out what colour it is but check out for all the pictures I posted around to have a better idea of itthecoolmiester wrote: So I'm leaning toward the Christy's for its spot on color. but I've heard a lot

That's what Steve thought aswell. I still don't think there is enough visual evidence to think that way yet although it's an interesting thought... I understand the uneasyness of some people in seeing a Christy's matching practically 100% a Raiders hat.Indiana G wrote:never noticed the back of that clipper hat till now. it looks to be a different block than the raiders hat.
