Any of you gifted individuals out there make holsters? I need an "Indy" style holster into which I can fit my US, 1917, .45 cal revolver with a full length barrel.

I made one to fit my M1917 for the premiere. Turned out OK, but I would probably do a thing or two different on the next one....

Here's some pix.

Let me know if you are interested in a holster, and what 'movie' style you are interested in. Raiders, TOD/LC, or KOTCS.

I have been making gun holsters for several years, and can make you a really nice quality custom holster.

Will a S&W 1917 fit in a Webley style holster?

Off hand I'd say no. The frame is lager and the barrel is 4.5".

Lee Keppler makes Indy holsters to fit the longer barrels. His # is: (619) 647-6744. Top notch stuff.

You sure about that? I think the WG is at least comparable in size to the
full length barrel 1917, and with moon clips can chamber .45 Auto or .45 rimmed without.

Now if you're talking about a Webley MKIV... Heck my wallet is bigger than that. :D

It's been a very long time since I held a Webley in my hand but my recollection is that over all it was a smaller weapon. Ergo I prefaced my comment with "off hand..." Perhaps someone out there has both pistols in his possession and can compare the two for us?

A Webley WG or MkVI feels huge next to the S&W1917. Overall, it's a clunky chunky of metal in comparison to the S&W, though I admit I like the Webley. They're both similar in size, but the 1917 is much more slim-lined.

Here is a photo comparison between the Webley WG and the S&W 1917. They are about the same size but if you lay the 1917 on top the WG the WG barrel is about 3/4 inch longer and the grip is about 1/2 inch longer.

The 1917 will easily fit into a Webley Holster. I have two original Webley holsters and the 1917 almost gets lost in them! These styles of holsters have a design that easily fits many different revolvers as long as the barrel lengths are similar.

That's an old Mk II ain't it?

Nope, It's a Webley WG. Same as Indy used in Last Crusade and Crystal Skull.

Well I have done some research and found Webley holsters for sale at a price range from $48.00 to $125.00. The accurate replicas of military holsters taper too much in the barrel area to suit me, and the SA Indy replicas are too expensive.

What I'm looking for, obviously, is a happy median. An "acceptable" holster at a reasonable price.

Any recommendations from my fellow COW members?

I did that. Asked if he thought an unaltered M-1917 would fit into his LC holster. He does not know.

Now ... given the original holster was designed for a .455 Webley an M-1917 should fit... eh? :-k

I'm pretty sure the 1917 will fit in a Todds Webley holster. It fits in my original Webley holster with no problem. Plus I believe Todd will take it back if it doesn't fit.

Try this site: http://www.epsaddlery.com/c-14-military.aspx

El Paso Saddlery has been making saddles, holsters, belts, scabbards, etc., forever. George Patton had El Paso makes him his holsters. As did John Wayne on occasion. And the late great shootist, Elmer Keith.
I suspect Indy, who was obviously no stranger to tools of survival, would have owned and used at least one El Paso holster & belt.

There are a couple of holsters that look like his, and that El Paso would modify to fit the Webley and/or S&W .45.

I have no affiliation with El Paso, other than owning a couple of their holsters.

I have a Webley .455 holster from 'Pacific Canvas and Leather', it does look very CS, if a touch light on the stiching thread colour (a white instead of a mustardy-cream), but it does the job nicely at $34.50.

I have that also, and can say that it is truly a quality choice, for the money. But I'm not really sure whether your revolver would fit... :-k

My recommendation would be to buy this (or todds), try it out, and send it back if it doesn't meet your standards/fit properly. :dig:

I took the advise of some of the other members of this forum and purchased a jake johnson holster. I have to say that as someone who is a firearm enthusiast and owns many holsters, this holster is one of the finest that i have seen. here are some photos. I needed a left handed version and jake did it right. Just an FYI. Jakes raiders holster fit my smith and wesson model 22 classic 4 inch perfectly.

I agree with you michael. I have owned a lee keppler holster and a todds holster. while they were both nice (sold the keppler) the johnson holster is superior in my opinion.
