Hey COW'ers! As you may know I'm a hat-maker newbie . I already made some hats but I still don't know how to make that great-looking dimensional cut of the brim. I saw a topic that Marc posted a couple years ago about the "making of the AB Dlx", and it seems that he marks some spots with a chalk and cut the side of the brim with some really sharp scissors, but of course that looks a little bit difficult...
My question is... Is that's the only way to do it or is there any other way?

i tried an exacto knife AND a roller blade against a template......these methods aren't even in the same ballpark as using sharp scissors/shears. of course you will sand the edges after so everything is smooth. you just have to ensure that the curve that you are cutting is drawn out before hand.....that's the hard part

I use now a piece of cardboard (with the right dimension of the brim) centered on my block.
The capeline is on the block. The top of th futur hat is put on the table.
I cut the brim following the edge of the cardboard (lots of little cuts)... and then use a piece of sandpaper in order to eliminate the irregularities...

I did my 3rd and 4th hats that way, it works better that the chalk.
