TOD Wested distressing tutorial

Ok for all of y'all who asked about the intricate details of how I distressed my TOD Wested, here ya go:
Now keep in mind, that MY jacket came in washed goat, so the following steps are what I did for MY jacket. Hides such as authentic lamb will be easier to distress.

Step 1: Use 70% rubbing alcohol. Rub it all over the jacket to get the "shine" off. On parts where you want to put emphasis on (seams, collar, outline of pockets) you want to use a LOT of alcohol. You want to get these parts to be lighter than the rest of the jacket.

Step 2: Take medium grade sand paper and lightly sand the areas that you are going to be emphasizing (this just gives you an idea of what it will look like, without being permanent- sort of like a pencil and eraser). After you have the key points sanded lightly to your liking, it is now time to REALLY start sanding those areas. After you have really sanded these areas, lightly add some "scratch" marks throughout the rest of the jacket to add as a filler.

Step 3: Put a small amount of Pecards on the jacket.

Step 4: Re-sand your key areas vigorously again. Be careful not to tear the stitching.

Step 5: (Yes I am completely serious) - roll the jacket in a ball and put it under your matress for a day. The next night, wear it WHILE YOU SLEEP. I know it sounds funny, but that's what I did.

Step 6: Wear and enjoy!

I hope this helps.

Step five was always advocated by Sergei back in the day. He, too, said it worked wonders, though you got snide remarks from your better half when it was being done. ;-)

Interesting. Thanks for posting that, although I'm sure we who have tried some of that stuff will tweak it our way. For example, I couldn't go to bed and sleep with my jacket on. Perhaps if I pass out on the couch though!

Anyhow, thanks for the posting.

you can distress the washed goat with a towel almost..thats how easy it scuffs..

you could distress the jacket with a kitchen scotch brite, that way you wont damage the seams....

Very good tutorial. Some really good ideas here.

I've thought about wearing the jacket to bed but I'd hate to hear the ribbing I'd take over that.

Role playing perhaps?

careful the 70% alcohol it may take the color off some jackets and you may open a can of worms and have to destress the whole jacket, it did not how ever take the color out of my tods standard, just dulled it a bit where i thought needed it 8)

Why WOULDN'T you distress the WHOLE jacket? :? :-k - besides, as I mentioned before, it worked for my TOD WASHED GOAT and would be easier to distress other hides. You do not HAVE to use this tutorial if you don't want to. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but this wasn't meant to be a tutorial for any jacket other than a Wested TOD washed goat.

Any tips on getting rid of any obvious 'I used sandpaper' lines in the jacket if you get them? And also just because I want to cover the bases, what about tearing the leather? Good, bad, easy or hard to deal with? Just curious.
