Hello. Can anyone give me any advice on which LC wool felt hat would be the best one to get ?Whats the most SA.

I don't understand what you mean by LC wool felt hat, but I don't think anyone here would recommend any kind of wool hat. Just about everyone will tell you to steer clear of the officially licensed Dorfman Pacific (often refered to as DP) hats. They are easily the least SA hats out there.
Quality hats are made of either rabbit or beaver fur felt. As to which is most SA, there's as many opinions about that as there are COW members.
There are stickied threads at the top of this forum with thoughts on what to consider when chosing a hat. Also, check the IndyGear main page (link is just under the Register Button at the top of the page) for a list of hat vendors.

Indiana Jeff

Thanks for your help and have a good day.

Well, Jeff, I assume matt just wants a wool felt hat that looks quite close a Indy hat
maybe for budget reasons, or maybe he likes the material better, or just doesn't like the idea of an animal being killed for giving its fur.
(EDIT: oh, well, matt wrote it himself).
Anyway, matt, there's really no much choice if you are stick with wool felt. Only the Dorfman Pacific, I think, makes wool felt fedoras: and the DP is faaaaaar from being accurate.

Ok, but let's wait for other opinions. Maybe somebody knows other brands which use wool - I'm no expert

I have a TOD wool felt and I think it looks pretty good. The shape looks right and with a bit of ageing looks pretty SA.Not saying for one moment that it looks anywhere near as good as the real fur deal though.

Blimey.Don't know whats wrong with me today. Not TOD,Raiders.

A raiders wool felt? umh, which brand is it? and could you post some photos?
oh, I'll give you a tip: if you notice you wrote something wrong in your message, you can use the Edit function instead of posting another one - just to avoid the so-called "flood" ;-)

what about the wool Christy's? it'd be more accurate than anything from DP.

If you want an LC hat seriously look into out Christys'/Hornet's they are in Kensington and online. The hats are rabbit felt and make really good ToD's and LC's easily. They can be bashed like a Raiders but it takes alot of skill.
The crown on this seems a little narrow to me, if I were to get another I'd go up a size to get more volume.
Dorfmans are much lower down the scale.

I've got a wool felt from themovieshop.com. Looks pretty decent for wool. Comes open crown and the dimensions are those listed on the indygear main page for ROLA.

Thats the fella. For a wool hat it does the job. From what I've read about the DP around here this one deffinatly beats that and its an ok price. Its not too much of a leap to get a Christys fur felt but As Matt has said he wants wool, and I would recommend this one.

Does anyone know if they sell the wool one in the shops? The online price for the other wool felts is £22! That would be a bit of a bargain. But last time I looked they didn't sell the wool felt Adventurer direct.

Dosnt look like christys do the adventurer in wool.

matt black,
There are other fedora forums on the web you may want to check out too. Most of COW stays away from wool felt so the other forums may give you a better idea for quality brands.

That's cool, can you post some pics? We had some a little while ago but always good to see more examples.

you don't need to excuse yourself, everybody has been a "noob", even the ones that now are considered experts. and questions are never stupid: answers can be, sometimes...

Yeah, Dorfman's the brunt of more jokes here than I care to mention, as far as accuracy is concerned it's probably deservedly so, not my first choice. I guess Christy's is the best you can do for wool felt, not too bad looking for wool really. Nevertheless, I'm suppose it tapers like a pointy cap caught in a rain storm.

Thanks.I'll have a look at Christy's.
