Not sure I trust this hide for strength - also am not really a fan of distressed jackets. Is the washed goat a strong hide?

Isn't a regular Goat's durability really good?

Strong AND Soft so you have the best of both worlds... highly recommended.

yes... just got it this weekend... its beautiful.

The best jacket i have... trust me you will not be disappointed.

Obviously, I've not had my washed goat long enough to know it's long term durability but I've owned a couple of washed goat jackets (still own one) and it seems like it would be a very resilient hide.

Boy, from what I've been reading about the washed goat hides on here there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions about it.

I saw Whiskeyman's pics and thought the jacket looked great. Then I started reading people saying it's not "SA" and that the hide scuffs easily....plus some have said the hide feels like you're wearing a windbreaker instead of a leather jacket.

Then of course there's the other side that's saying it's great......I'm totally confused.

I'm looking at getting either a OTR soft goat or washed goat myself and I'm wondering which route to go.......


To me the "distressed look" and matte finish of the washed goat seems like it would be more "SA".....Indy's coat always looked dull, scraped up and dirty to me.

I've owned two jackets so far that I've had to add fuller's earth to in order to get them to look like what I saw in the films. I'd love to just be able to put on a jacket and have that "look" already built in without having to go an extra step.......

I dunno.....maybe seeing some pics of the washed goat in daylight would help me decide......That and I'd like to know if the hide is really thinner then the regular soft goat.

I owned a washed goat ROLA jacket, very briefly.
It's dull. Almost no shine at all, and therefore perfect for a Temple of Doom jacket, in my opinion. A Raiders jacket should be a little shiny at least . And darker too; the washed goat I had was fairly light.
Durability wise, I don't know. It was heavier than any lambskin jacket I've had from Wested, and felt more substantial.

Indy's jacket was never 100% dull all around. it had shiny parts and dull parts...

so the washed goat in my opinion would not be SA for a raiders jacket...

for a temple jacket this hide would be better I think.but still the temple jacket wasnt 100% dull all around either...but more dull then raiders..

And, like Holt and I have talked about before, while I think the hide will last for years, I'm not sure what it will look like. It does scuff really easy so you get a jacket that looks years old in a matter of months. So what will it look like in years?

I know people were looking forward to me saying that, yet again.

The washed goat will scuff easily but it's strong......Pecards will easily make it look new again.....but the more banged-up it is, the more it looks "SA" in my opinion.

Its not shinny i do agree... but put with some Pecard, it will soften up the leather, darken it and give it a tiny bit of a shine.

Lamb feels so flimsy... it feels like it could break any minute.

Yes it does scuff (Goat) a bit... but in my opinion thats better as it gives the worn look without having to get a pen-knife out or having to distress it on purpose.

I like it... i dont think you can go too much wrong by getting it.

It would probably be great for a Custom LC/CS jacket

A. The washed goat will last a lot longer than the stitching on the jacket.

B. It is not "dull" but has what I'd describe as a semi-matte finish. But it should have some leather conditioner applied like all distressed leathers need. It's the best finish I've seen on any jacket I own to date.

C. While the color might vary, the two examples I have are a dark, dark brown. For me the color is perfect and I dislike jackets that aren't nearly black.

D. Washed goat is certainly not like a leather windbreaker. Yes, it isn't the world's thickest leather but it in no way feels light or flimsy. I don't baby my jacket and don't question that leather at all.

E. I don't think it scuffs any easier than other predistressed leathers. I've been wearing one for months now, including a couple weeks on the road, and there's no big scratches or scuffs on it that would occur from normal wear. Because of the matte finish I mentioned, you can make a scuff with your fingernail but it won't stay and quickly blends into the rest. Mine still looks like when I got it other than wrinkles and the effect of a heavy dose of Pecards for waterproofing.

F. I've been wearing my washed goat nearly daily for probably as long or longer than anyone here. If there was something wrong with it, trust me, I'd let people know. While the jacket overall might not be the greatest and I hate the construction, I'd choose washed goat again and again and again.

I have had my washed goat for several months now, and I love it! When I wear it, it feels like a strong, well built leather jacket. The only that makes it different from a regular goat, IMHO, is that the leather looks like I have had this jacket for many years. Sure, it scuffs easily, but the scuffs don't look bad, they are hardly noticeable with the overall scheme of the jacket.

So basically, it feels strong like a regular goat and is as thick as regular goat, but just has more of a worn look to the leather, that's all.

Does anyone have any really good shots of the washed goat in daylight or good lighting?
