MKVII SNAP FASTENERS

Post by matt black »

:| This is probably a useless bit of info but here goes. The snap fasteners on my bag were quite coroded and would'nt snap together so I chanced ordering a packet from ebay to replace them in the hope that they would look enough like the originals. They were EXACTLY the same ! I did'nt even have to replace the male half. How cool is that,a sixty year old bag and the hardware has not changed a bit.The packet of 20 snaps cost me £5 and you even get a tool for fitting them.If anyone needs to know the size just leave me a message. :)

I have tried seaching ebay but no luck. What size did you get, and are they brass Neweys (that's what they are on mine)?

My question too!

I was looking for Newey ones and found them, only to discover they were green in color.

The flat brass ones do look a lot like the modern ones you can find in stores though.

The wavy patterned Newey ones seems harder to find though...

I think in the ebay search I put 'brass snap fasteners'.At the time they only had chrome plated brass so I used a bit of wet and dry to take of the chrome and hey presto, 60 year old looking snaps. The packet is in my workshop so I will check on the size and post a.s.a.p.The origional snaps on my bag had no wavey lines on them so the new ones matched perfectly.

Thanks for posting!

I did that too on my WPG repro i once had! The chrome ones turned into brass after a bit of sanding. ;)
