US Wings Antique Lambskin

Post by Fortune and Glory »

Does anyone out there have one? I own only Wested thus far, but in looking over the US Wings catalogue I was taken aback by how good their antique lamb looks.

So, any comments? Are the images posted at US Wings accurate? How thick is the lamb? How has it held up? Any pictures?

Really looks like the closest thing out there to the TOD jacket in a number of respects. A bit of tweaking could no doubt put it over the edge...

The closest thing you're going to get to a TOD jacket is a custom Wested. Check out the TOD specs at www.indygear.com. I've own a US Wings antique lamb jacket, and here's my brief impression:

-Extremely good production quality
-The most rugged and durable Indy jacket you can buy
-The leather is too thick to create creases and mold to your body. In other words, it's very stiff.
-The leather has a top coating that easily rubbs off to reveal a lighter coating underneath. Basically, the jacket can get a distressed look with actually damaging the leather.

If you want a very practical and durable jacket that strongly resembles an Indy jacket, then US Wings is for you. If your interested in screeen accuracy, then get a custom-made TOD jacket from Peter at Wested, per the specs listed on the Indygear site. I'd be happy to advise you on it. Those specs need to be translated to your size.

The Wings jacket is a GREAT all around Indy jacket....top notch.

I also love the antique lambskin...I have one of Wings G-2 jackets in that leather and it is fantastic!

But you're dead on in your assessment.

TOD jacket

Yurik: thanks for your reply and I've sent you a PM.

Indydawg: any chance on getting a couple pictures posted of the leather once its seen a bit of use?

Am also curious about the overall weight of the lamb. When Yurik says "thick and stiff," well, that's not exactly why people usually buy lamb, is it? I thought we were talking about a relatively light jacket, here...

Any other opinions greatly appreciated.

Well, yeah...

But the trick is, giving it some wear time around here....it IS a very warm jacket-one that I've only worn when it got below 20 outdoors...which, in Georgia, wasn't but about 6 days this year.

Now the jacket I have IS pretty thick in terms of just leather thickness...the thick lining makes it even MORE a cold weather jacket....but it was NEVER stiff....not even right out of the box.

When the jacket actually acquires some wear to it, I could get some shots of it, but right now, it still just looks too new...
