Just got my late 80s DM today. I'm pretty pleased with it. I just wish I could get it to darken more. I have already put some Pecards on it so hopefully that will help a little. It is by far the easiest cracking whip I have ever owned.
Well I bought it from another COW member and he said that it was from the late 80s (which is the only reason I bought it. Otherwise I would've just stuck with my Strain or bought a NEW DM)
Very nice roohide bullwhip. In the slightly blurry photo in the other thread I thought the leather looked a bit thicker than it is. It looks like a great DM.
Knibs7,
Either way, that is a fantastic looking DM whip. I absolutely love the older models, I own one of the (Meagan) DM whips and you can tell that there is a difference between the two. I am jealous!
It looks to be in pretty good shape. either way, that's a keeper. Just use the whip! The oil in your hands and using it will naturally darken it up all by itself.

Definitely, just let it happen naturally. Maybe keep it out in the open in your house to let the sunlight darken it.

great score
Good point, but how? I've read that the new ones aren't even made by David anymore, so is it still worth it, or should you wait to get lucky on a vintage? And what are the chances of someone being willing to get rid of their's?
