Hey there gang!

I had come across two other sellers on that Auction site that I was curious about.

One was Bullwhips.US. The other is Major Productions.

The first one looks to offer the regular run of the mill working whips that look steps way above the other guy y'all don't like. The second cat seem to offer custom whips upon order. He has a 12 week lead time & his whips are in a natural tan & look really tight.

Have any of you here had any experience with these dudes & what is your thought on their products?

Dan,
though I've never handled either, the Bullwhips U.S. whip looks to me like the strands are cut a bit on the narrow side and he doesn't mention a plaited belly, so I will assume it is not plaited and probably not made of leather. On the other hand, it is only 80 bucks, so you can't ask for the world at that price, and you shouldn't expect it to work as well as top of the line whip either.

I couldn't find the second one you're talking about (you should really put a link to what you are talking about...), but I may have seen his add one or twice.

Never having handled any of these whips, I cannot speak from personal experience, but common sense dictates that you are looking at real budget whips that will performs and last accordingly. Why don't you just save your money and buy yourself a good one that will last you for a long time, instead of these quick-fix whip-like things?

You could spend the same money and get one of Louie Fox's budget whips. At least these are made by someone who cares and have a plaited leather belly in it instead of god-knows-what. Here's the link:http://bullwhips.org/

His don't exactly strike me as a budget whip at those prices. I don't exactly plan on buying from either of these characters, just curiosity and a want of knowledge made me ask about them. Thanks for your input.

WOW some people that try to pass off good whip construction, you can tell by looking at the photos that they are complete junk. Contact me if you would like an above average budget indy style whip. I had a run over at the RPF for Indy style bullwhips and being half way done with the run I have enough leather to make one or two more whips. They are 12 plait raiders style with 2 plaited bellies made out of AA English Kip hides. I was going to put the offer up on the RPF but am more glad to help out a COW member to get a good quality whip at a reasonable price that they will be Very happy with. I will put up some pictures in the next day or 2 of the whips from the run over at the RPF. Let me know.

And they look infinitely nicer than the Noble offerings for about the same price.

Great looking whip there James, I do like what I see. Can't wait to see further pictures from that run. So, they are an 8' 12 plait kip leather. Could you please enlighten me on this type of leather? Its benefits & shortcomings?

So, I take it that the second cat selling his whips on OFAS isn't that good either. Oh well, like I said, I never planned on buying from either one. I was just curious about them and wanted to find out if anyone here had any dealings with there wares in the past. The more questions I ask the better my education gets & the better I can make an informed decision from to boot.

like others have mentionned, neither is worth your money and I can tell right away they are not quality whips, so don't even bother.

I'd like to know some more about James' RPF run of whips and what the very reasonable may be. I liked the looks of what I saw on the RPF site. Does the kip leather darken over time as well, or does it keep its lighter color? I'm interested in how that particular leather will hold up.

My interest is also piqued into Gus' budget whip as well. It looks like I found a new money pit hobby that I can learn something from.

Maybe I can even learn how to make one for myself as well some day. One never knows until one tries. I may have to do like some makers did in their early past and tear a junker apart and see if I can make it better. Wouldn't that be a hoot?

Hey Dan,
money pit... boy yer not kidding! If you want to try your hand at making them it's a lot of fun, but it isn't cheaper than buying a top-of-the-line whip, that's for sure. But if you're a do-it-yourself-er, you might enjoy it. Long process and tons of things to learn, not to mention buy, but it can be very gratifying to see something you've made with your own two hands actually work! But like I said, it is NOT cheaper than just buying a good one hehe.

Hey Dan,

The English Kip Hides that I order are the best leather that I have used besides Kangaroo, It holds up very well, even David Morgan used it for a while when there was an embargo on kangaroo hides. Like Kangaroo it does darken over time and is a very nice leather for whip making. Here are some pictures of three 10ft 12plait Kip Hides that I recently finished.

Nice looking whips James!

Those sure are nice looking indeed. I presume it is a combination of the lighting in the image & my monitor, but they look almost a creme color. I am guessing that they are a natural tan like most other new whips that I have seen here? The plaiting looks nice & tight too, must be fairly dense. How is the balance in the hand?
