Show Us Your "Flying Squirrels"

Let's see those flying squirrels, this thread is exclusively for posting your "flying squirrel" jackets. So, please assume the appropriate position with arms spread when posting photos. Comparison photos with non-squirrel jackets are also acceptable. Please keep theorizing and debate out of this thread as there is already a lively thread with that going on. ;0 I'll try to contribute a shot sometime later on.

Well, I admit it might be kind of embarrassing or frivolous to post photos to this thread, I was kind of in a silly mood I suppose when I created it. If it doesn't take off that's fine, I'll post at least a couple shots before the day's out.

I'd already started a Flying squirrel thread recently. It's on the first page.

Kevin, yeah I know and I referenced it in my opening dialogue. I stated that I hoped the debate would be left on that thread and just light-hearted photos could be put specifically on this thread. However, I guess you could turn your revenge/debate post into a show and tell post like this one I suppose.

I got a bit upset for a minute, Rex, when you said 'revenge post'!
Then I remembered it's the first word of my thread title...
I understand now, and agree, we'll keep the debate out of this one, and save it for the pics. I'll try and contribute one shortly; most of my pics are just of the jackets themselves, I haven't many with me in them!

Sorry about that, "revenge" is a funny title though. I'm uploading some photos now, I'm not sure if they qualify or not, but one is a custom wested....and whoa, that is one mutant squirrel, looks like bigfoot with squirrel head.

the first jacket is way to big for you IMO.
the second has the smallest FS effect in it.

The 1st and 3rd photos look like the "Michelin Man" effect.

I agree Holt. The second looks the best size (and it has gussets which might help reduce the effect?) but they all look big.
What size are they Rex, and what do they measure in the chest compared to your actual chest measurement?

The first jacket I did buy over-sized and then shrunk by a wash and run in dryer. I will agree it is on the looser side, but that was my goal, not a more form fitting jacket. Here is the same jacket from a previous post:

I think maybe the gussets might reduce the squirrel effect a bit in the custom jacket, but I'm not really sure if the cut would have really been that much different under the arms and along the sides without the gussets.

First was a 44 but it shrunk significantly with a wash and rapid dry, 2nd was a 40 but it also shrunk a bit with a wash and slow dry, 3rd is a Todd's large no washing or drying applied, in my opinion the Todd's is about the right fit for a raiders jacket, the 2nd looks a bit tight to me (when my arms are lowered), especially for a CS jacket, and the 44 is loose but it is my favorite as far as fit. I don't like tighter clothing since I'm rather small boned although lean and muscled, semi-tight clothing is not terribly flattering, as would also be the case if I were a really overweight person. I will have to measure the jackets to really see what the jackets' chest now measure. My own measurements are 31" waist and 39.5" chest. My slim waist may be contributing to some of the loose effect in the jackets when my arm are raised (Michelin® Man effect). I'll post the jacket chest measurements later tonight.

I want to laugh, but it's just too close to Jar Jar in an Indy movie!

So, measurements in front from side seam to side seam right under the arms (and gussets) is 24" for the first jacket, 19.5" for the second and 23" for the last, so the chest measurements are approx. 48" 39" and 46". Since it is common for jackets to have 4 extra inches added to the actual chest size (size 40 jacket has 44") the jackets are now actually sizes (44, 35 and 42). It looks like Todd's standard large corresponds to a size 42 jacket. Even though I'm sure the off the rack shrunk more than the custom it still corresponds to a size 44 chest jacket and the custom job that shrunk less is really small at a size 35.

All three of those Rex, while nice jackets, are exactly the sort of thing I'm trying to avoid. I want to be able to raise my arms out and not have the jacket ride up at all, or at least not much.
All three of my LC jackets look like that, possibly worse. The armholes are just too low, or strangely placed or something.
I like Whiskyman's ROLA from the other thread a lot. I hope it's not a one-off. The should all be cut like that.

That's just part of th LC patern so don't worry.

Well, I guess the questions I was asked and my responding to them sort of has continued debate. I guess it's just too hard to avoid "squirrel" debate when photos go up. (shoulder shrug icon). I suppose the armholes are rather low I will agree.

This has nothing to do with Indy, but might relate to flying squirrels. Watch the whole thing and then check your heart-rate.

Maybe Magnoli can do one of these in leather.

I noticed my jacket rides up when zipped and arms out to the side is like a FS (not too bad though IMO), but how often will we zip up the jacket and do that? At first I had no idea what that was and I remembered some people talking about the squirrel effect and I was like, "Aaah, that's what they mean!"
