I think that two brown Indy style hats are enough. With my Penman Raiders and my Crystal Skull AB on the way, I don't feel the need to buy another brown Indy hat. Maybe you should look into other style hats. We all love the tall crwon and wide brim, but there are other hats with similar specs and different colors that look great as well.

I've only got a Fed IV Deluxe in Dark Brown, but I still plan on getting a KotCS Adventurebilt ordered from Steve before he calls it quits. That'll be enough brown hats, I think. I'm also considering a gray Fed IV similar to the one Indy wore on the train in KotCS. It'd be nice to have a nice hat to wear when brown doesn't quite fit.

Right now I've got a brown Fed III, which is my "Indy hat" (Raiders bash, gets dirty, smashed up, etc.) And I also have a moonstone Fed IV which is my "Indy dress hat" (bashed like the seaplane hat). I'm quite content......for now. The only reason I can see for me wanting another would be to get another brown Fed IV and bash it like the Venice pier hat. That way I would have: a brown and grey dress hat, and an "Indy hat"

To the married men:
Golf is more expensive. So if you don't play golf, but buy hats, just tell her "this is my golf game" next time you order your new AB-rabbit-Behind-the-Truck-Being-Dragged-By-the-Whip, But-Before-the-Side-Shot-of-Harrison-Pulling-Himself-Up-Closer-To-The-Back-of-theTruck bash.
I have a Fed III Regular. Got a Fed IV DLX on the way. Would like to get a Penman when I can afford it (Fedora will be retired by that time). Then I'd like to get a gray Indy.

I have 2 brown Raiders AB's, 1 grey Raiders AB, 1 brown CS ABD ( worked on by both Marc and Steve), 1 brown raiders Henry AB and have a brown and grey CS AB on order from Steve.
I have a brown test Raiders hat of my own that I wear most of the time just because I got tired of telling people why I was wearing one of my AB's and not my own. I hope one day to make myself a couple of hats that I have always wanted.
All my other hats had either been given away, sold or died a death in the interest in the skills of hat making.
Potato chips baby, potato chips. ;-)

I finally have "enough" at no less than 5 Indy hats (one gray, 4 brown). I have 3 ABs, and JPD, and a Magnoli HJ. I have gone through 4 Federation III's (sold 3, turned one into a non-Indy). I consider my Indy collection complete, but my hat collection as a whole? Not even close.
The only budging I might do is a second gray. I really like how BendingOak's gray clippers come out, and I'm a sucker for gray hats. So, maybe after I feed my other hat-desires a bit, I'll have 6.

You can't go wrong with that move, Chewie... TRUST me.Chewbacca Jones wrote:The only budging I might do is a second gray. I really like how BendingOak's gray clippers come out, and I'm a sucker for gray hats. So, maybe after I feed my other hat-desires a bit, I'll have 6.
As for me, I've my CURRENT Inventory of Hats is:
- An old (and somewhat tapered) Stetson - not strictly an "Indy"... but still a "pretty close"
- A Penman Grey Raiders Clipper
- A Magnoli Herbert Johnson with Raiders Bash (Brown)
The Hat I'm still waiting on delivery of:
- A Jimmy Pierce Designs Cury Felt Raiders (Brown)
The Hats I still VOW to own (it's all part of the Patient Plan):
- A Steve Delk Adventurebilt
- A Marc Kitter Adventurebilt Deluxe
- Another Penman (this time, brown)
- A special Custom Stingy Brim - courtesy of Penman Hats - that I intend to have made to match a Deckard Blade Runner Trench Coat I own...
Lastly, Hats I'll most likely be ordering:
- Another Grey Fedora (this time of the Bogart "Big Sleep" variety) once again, courtesy of Mr. Penman.
- And I'm keeping one "Wild Card" Hat Order up my sleeve for any surprises BendingOak sees fit to pull along the way.
THEN, I'm done.
... Or at least, that's what I keep TELLING myself so that I can fall asleep at night...
All the Best,
Mitch
In my earlier post, I was just thinking about fedoras. I forgot to mention the nine or ten cowboy hats I own, two of which are made from pure beaver felt.
But hats aren't my only obsession. I've got 25 pairs of cowboy boots, ranging from good ol' s**t-kickers, to snakeskin, ostrich, elephant, lizard, stingray and alligator.
I also enjoy target shooting, and have a few pistols and a shotgun. In response to another post on this thread, I find golf way too frustrating. But blowing the #### out of something is cathartic.
Unfortunately, these hobbies get expensive.

If we talk about Indy style hats, by now I have only my pretty new standard Federation IV. In the past I've owned two close-enough hats: one italian made hat and one Dorfman Pacific. In the future I'll probably order two custom Indy hats from Penman: one brown LC and one grey from Raiders.
If we talk about ALL our hats, well, this is my collection by now: BazzanoJones Hat Collection ;-)

In my opinion it's too many when you still have some of them in the boxes unbashed... that's when I think it's too many. I have a little too many
Bazzano, about this hat http://picasaweb.google.com/dario.lazza ... 4555819842 what colour is it?

This is a grey italian(?) hat made by the unknow Anderson that my aunt gave to me when my uncle passed away.Erri wrote:Bazzano, about this hat http://picasaweb.google.com/dario.lazza ... 4555819842 what colour is it?
I don't know if this color have a name, but I can describe it as a warm grey with brown and pink undertones. It have a very soft rabbit felt. ;-)

I have 2 Indy fedoras: an AB Henry and an AB I recently bought from a member here.
I still want to get myself a Mag/HJ (allready ordered one but awaiting info from Magnoli on who will make it), a grey Penman (once I get a Little more money) and a CS ABD.
That's all the Indy hats I would want for now, but who knows what I'll be tempted to buy in the future ;-)
Appart from those I also have 3 non-Indy fedoras: one Stetson in a butterscotch like colour, a black woolfelt one of an unknown make and a practically destroyed greenish one of unknown make and material (might be rabbit).
Regards, Geert

Uh oh! As in 59cm?
Oh NO! Erri! You and I ARE the same size!
I feel like I should be saying "Anything I can get ya, buddy? Are you sitting comfortably? Did you need a drink or anything? Your slippers? The paper?"
(Fear NOT though, my friend... I'm not about to start asking you to consider parting with any of your hats! Enjoy them ALL! I know if I had your collection that's what I'd try to do!)
All the Best,
Mitch

Whoa! Hang on a minute. I'm also a 59. Mitch, as the more senior member here at COW, I think I should have Erri's hats. But, as you are my senior at life, I think we are tied. Erri, it all rests on your shoulders.
I don't really want your hats, Erri, I'm just having some fun here. Let Mitch take 'em. ;-)

Hi,
I am a regular hat-wearer that happens to be a Indy fan too; this I explain to put things in context.
I own only a Indy hat so far, a Raiders by John Penman. It is a high quality hat, so I think I am finished with Indy brown hats. I wanted a Raiders because I believe it is the most characteristic hat.
It could well be I acquire a Indy grey too. I have not decided if it would be a Raiders or a KotCS yet.
I do not see much need to have more than one, good, Indy hat in each colour. I have about 30 hats at present, and if I expand the collection, it is more likely I would look for something else, like a colour or style I do not have or that is under-represented, in preference to acquiring, let's say, another Indy hat in brown.
But, as explained before, this is just my personal take on the matter, I know other people build their collections just around Indy style hats, in the various colours and styles seen across the movies, and that is perfectly fine.
Regards!

That is similar to how I feel. I have a Penman Raiders hat and an Crystal Skull AB on order (coming up close to that year mark). To be honest, after receiving my Penman, I didn't really feel the need to buy any more brown, Indy-style hats. For me, it just makes sense to have different hats in your collection, even if they are all similar in specs to the Indy fedora.Barcelona Jones wrote:I do not see much need to have more than one, good, Indy hat in each colour. I'm not sure if I've really ever actually WRITTEN "LOL" before, but I'm tempted to do so this time around since it's been a while since I've heard such a back-handed compliment.

Yikes.
Ouch.

Jeeez... suddenly, I'm feeling like Indy on the Bantu Wind... (Glad you didn't know me 10 years ago, Doc... or you mighta made mention of how I'm not still THAT man, either...)
;-)
Anyway, while I realize we're all jokin' around here, I still want to respectfully make something clear (out of fear that if I DON'T, Erri's gonna get bombarded by "pm"s from OTHER size 59's who are ALSO more senior - at least here at C.O.W. - than I am... Which is, like, MOST Members, here...) :
I'm not really asking to make deals with you on your hats Erri... as I said above, I sincerely hope you have reason to enjoy them ALL...
I'll simply keep an eye on the Cairo Bazaar from time to time - just like everybody else here - to see if you ever decide to make some available to other Members. If that time comes, I have no doubt that you'd be offering them first to the sort of caring hatfans that largely people these Boards.
In the meantime, EVERYONE here should rest assured that if the good Doctor and myself are ever locked in combat for a single hat (and the Winner of the Prize is determined by the number of silver hairs that adorn his temples)...
Well, Dave just doesn't stand a chance!

You guys crack me up
Ok I have no imediate plans of selling my hats also because my girlfriend (believe it or not) said "don't you dare selling them"... so, as a respectable boyfriend I have to follow the intimidation
But eventually some hat will go... and I'll keep you both in mind but mind you, I won't let them go for nothing

At last count, I believe I have around 18 hats. Thing is, I usually pass hats along to others after I've received them, but I don't do that when they're personal gifts from friends....and fortunately (or unfortunately), that's where I am now with what I have left. I wear them in rotation as opportunity allows, or they're carefully stored away until that opportunitey presents itself.
I'll have to say, though, I have 3 main rotation hats, and ONE that I almost ALWAYS reach for when I'm walking out the door at any given moment...so I do have my favorites of the herd....and no, I'll not say what they are, as I don't want to present favoritism to any particular brand hat.

If you're ever worried you might be getting too many hats (or leather jackets for that matter), step on over the thefedoralounge.com. Many here are members there, and you will meet several people with more hats than they could possibly wear in months. We're talking several people with 20-30 dress hats, and some with many more.
