So, I sold this guy these boots like 6 or 7 years ago. His wife called me last night, he had just called her IN TEARS, he was helping a buddy move a desk, and took his boots off at the door. The guy's dog started in on his boot. This is what he found at the door. I had to share with you folks...

Good LORD!!! I would be absolutely devistated if a dog did that to my Aldens. However, I would then proceed to destroy the other shoe by stomping on the dogs head repeatedly.

OK, I wouldn't really physically hurt the pooch, but I'd think long and hard about serving some chocolate fondue with his kibble.

Has anybody ever made a leather jacket from dog hide?

Well, that's one trick the dog will only do once.

I hope the person who owned the dog offered to help pay for a new pair of shoes.

Or some anti-freeze in his water bowl.

Jokes aside, is there any way to repair the shoe? The damage seems localized to the toe.

Oh, yeah! My dogs go crazy over the stuff. I have to keep shooing them away from the lid and container when I'm conditioning leather goods. They'd probably lick it dry!

On a side note, coming from a HUGE dog person, a dog is only as good as his owner/human! ;-)

"Does your dog bite boots?

"NO!"

we see and hear dog chewing noises

"That's not my dog!"

Sorry couldn't help it with that Pink Panther joke. What a drag.

I'd be hitting my buddy up for a new pair of boots. Gotta keep your animals in check. It's your responsibility as a pet owner.

Just replace, "I want my money", with, "Why'd you eat my Alden?" .

wow six years of wear out of one pair of boots, that's good!
I'd just ask the dog owner to pay for replacements.

I'm lucky , my dog stays away from my shoes and stuff but my wife shoes are another story. He has taken them and nibbled a little on one pair.

We had one dog who took kindly to antique leather, as in vintage holsters, watch pouches, etc. My dad was not happy and neither were his leather goods.

Maybe the dog was not an Indy Fan. Probly a Water World groupie.
I have a large pooch who sometime dose some no nos. We have learned what to do and not to leave out. He is still a major part of our family.

I guess because I've spent some years working with large dogs, that it surprises me how many people have the "oh well" attitude about a dog chewing a shoe.

My eldest daughter left several of her large dogs in my backyard while she moved to Arizona....coming back for them at a later time. During that time, they chewed off a lot of the back of the house woodwork, rounded a 2 x 4 railing, and chewed off a good chunk of the corner of my cinderblock garage!

Boots would have been nothing to these teething monsters.

Hopefully, the buddy is responsible enough to offer to pay for repairs or at least a satisfactary portion of the cost for replacements.

My own Aldens are about the same age 6-7 years old and I can't imagine seeing them destroyed in a situation like that.

I did have a dog chew the heck out a pocket of the very first leather jacket (A-2) that I owned. Man I remember that was pretty devastating and didn't love the jacket the same afterwards. Luckily my next leather jacket was and Indy Wested LC.

I guess we are all waiting to hear if the dog owner stepped up to the plate and did the right thing.

I don't have faith in people any more. I got hit by a car last summer while ridding my bike ( brand new I might add). It was a young kid and he still hasn't paid me.

We're creeping off topic but I thought, as an online friend, I'd make a reply.
My grandfather used to say, "the human race would be fine if it wasn't for all the people"! I always took it to mean that by and large we are a cooperative lot but one or two sour it for the rest.
I had a similar accident a few weeks ago. My advice, if you are unhurt now, let it go. "One year from now you won't miss that money, unless you feel you have too" - another one of my grandfather's.
On the other hand, if you still deserve compensation become a persistent but polite pest. phone or write everyday asking, ever so nicely, how your payment is progressing. It works wonders.
Regards
Enigmata

Yea, but the big difference here is that the guy whos shoe got chewed was a friend of the owner of the dog. In fact he was helping him.

To my knowledge, the owner did nothing. The guy was in Friday and bought a new pair. I don't think that he got compensated. What really is the kicker is that the first pair was a birthday gift. His wife had a garage sale and used her profits to buy them. The new pair was a birthday gift too...they are very nice people, I have a feeling that they would say "oh, don't worry, it's no big deal" but let it eat them up. :(

Yeah, the guy who owned that dog REALLY should have compensated them for those shoes. That pooch just chewed through $270. No way that should be let go. -M

:-k I think you are all missing the point....

he just needs a good story to go with that, like:

"so there I was running from the natives with the ancient artifact in my bag when this huge lion rushed me and began chewing on me before I managed to :whip: it away and made good my escape. It was a good piece and should be worth at least a ticket to Marrakesh"

Here is another pet tale. For a gift from my wife a few years back, she picked up an MR Falcon went they went clerance. It has been out on display for a year or so uncovered. Fast forward to last month when we adopted a new cat. The first night we were going into the room to watch a movie when we found the new cat had made the Falcon her perch by sleeping on it.

An expensive case now covers the Falcon.

I can imagine how he feels about his boots, and his friend likely has/had no idea of what they cost.
