Self made Raiders holster. Constructive criticism would be appreciated.

Note: The holster is not red. It just appears so in the picture. It’s the best I could do with the lighting I had.

Wow! That looks fantastic! I have one question, was this image flipped around at all? But this is sometihng I planned on doing too, I plan on making an LC holster, what kind of thread and tools did you use?

You will need to get access to stitching and cutting tools, edgers, a hole punch, thread and a hide. By the way, this will cost more than buying a ready made holster and belt!!!

The holster has a sewn in toe plug. I used 6-7oz. leather and the thread, dye, and hardware were purchased from a local leather supply. The most important ingredient that went into making this holster was the rewind on the DVD player. I watched certain scenes (ROTLA) over and over trying to get the correct look. That's why I am curious for opinions.

I checked out your websight and your work looks superb! It was cowboy leather that started me toward leather work in the first place. I have been accumulating tools for the past few years and am set up O.K. for a novice.
I am hand stitching of course as a machine is costly. My biggest problem is with dying. I haven't found a technique that gives me consistent results. It's either streaky or blotchy and sometimes turns out just fine. If this is an appropriate topic for this board I would appreciate any advice you can give.

I feel the raiders holster needs no dye. Just some oil and sunlight time to get the correct shade. The darker CS style holster was dyed with a Paasche hobby airbrush. The dye has been thinned with denatured alcohol. No splotches!

I'm interested in doing some novice leather work to make my own raiders holster, as well as a holster/belt/pouch rig for a star wars blaster.

So I'm wondering, what tools do you need to get started in leather work? What would you recommend as required tools to do such work?

I haven't had a chance to update it yet. Someday I plan to update it, but I will need to improve my computer skills. Posting on COW has been a good way for me to get business. I love making these holsters, but I haven't been doing the Indy holsters long enough to gage business.
