Question about the soles on Todd's boots....

Post by IndianaBogart »

I have a question for anybody else who has a pair of Todd's boots.

Here goes....

I got my Coyle's boots for Christmas and have worn them pretty much everyday since. I really like them and don't have any problems with them or anything. However, I noticed today that on the bottom of my right boot the stiching is slightly frayed in one spot. I would assume that this is normal because they are in almost constant contact with pavement, etc. But there are no other spots on either boot where this has happened. Is this anything to worry about? If the stitching became too worn could that cause problems? Has anyone else experienced this?

Also, I've noticed other spots on the soles, usually near the edges, where the rubber has gotten slight gashes (for lack of a better term). This is mostly from walking on gravel, etc. I was just making sure that this is normal and hasn't just happened to my pair.

Thanks,
-Bogart

If we are thinking of the same thing,
that's how all boots with stitching on the sole are.

Take a look at this shot of new and old Aldens for example.

After wear the stitching just wears away. The sole has been glued on, on top of the fact that it has been stitched on.

Ok, thanks! This is exactly what I needed to know. I figured that the soles were glued on but I just wanted to make sure so that they wouldn't fall off or anything. So basically the stitching on the bottom is for looks?

After wearing these boots pretty much every day for 2 months the heal is really wearing down to the point it needs replacing. Anyone know if it's possible to replace the heal? or do i need to invest in a new pair? If so suppose I could save up for some Aldens not that my girlfriend would understand

That's a good question that IndyGeek brought up. I can see the heel on my pair possibly wearing down after several months of wear. Can the heel on Todd's boots be replaced?

Any shoes can be fixed by a good cobbler. With the way the economy has hit many people, the folks who repair things (shoes included) are seeing a lot more business.

Look in the Yellow Pages under shoe repair then go to the place that looks the oldest and hasn't been cleaned in 25 years - that will probably be the best guy in town...

only shoes with a goodyear welt can have their sole replaced properly. The stitching allows them to be rebuilt. The heels need to have a nailed foundation in order for them to have the ability to be replaced. If they don't the heel will most likely fall off after a few weeks. If you go to any second hand store, there's at least one pair lying around that has new heels tacked on with almost no wear, falling off.

Geek, the best thing to do would be to take them in and ask what can be done. A good craftsman can fix anything.

Mine are wearing also, but it doesn't seem to be more than normal.
I normally can wear a pair of shoes completely out in about nine months.
