The Big "Harry" Question

Post by inexpensive_jones »

Welcome to 2009! I know some of you stayed up New Years Eve to welcome the new year in, but I stayed up to make sure the last one left.:whip:

On to the topic:
I don't know if anyone has heard anything from any reliable sources, but which hat out of the 4 films did Harrison Ford personally like the best?
Don't make something up. [-X
Has he ever commented on this in any interviews?

I dont think this is something that would generally get asked of him. Most people would see the same hat in all the movies.

Would be interesting to know if he had a favorite though.

Oops. First time I read this, I didn't see the word "hat" in the post, so I moved it to Lao Che's. Upon rereading it, it IS a hat topic so I moved it back! Doh! #-o I still haven't returned from vacation, apparently.

I can only report on an on location statement he made during the filming of CS. While sitting with the costumer waiting for a call, Ford took his hat off and closely inspected it, placed it back on his head, then said (with censoring):

"Bernie, this is one @#$%ing nice hat!"

That is a direct quote.

So, he DID like the AB's he wore in the fourth film! ;-)

I don't think he really cared that much, its just another costume piece.

Just exactly what are you basing that opinion on, Dutch? The quote above was taken directly from set when stated, and Ford took his own personal AB home with him when filming was done. He did not do that with any of his HJ's.

If you watch the interview that Ford did with Conan O'Brien, he states that he didn't want any of the props littering his house. For Ford to take his AB home means something.

I just mean in general that for actors costumes is just part of their job. We fans tend to over exagerate props and such :) The fact that he said the ab is a nice hat doesn't mean he disliked all the others, and how do you know he doesnt have the HJs at his home?

We don't know that he didn't take one or two HJs home, but he has said that he didn't take any props home with him. We know that took the AB home and that he really liked it. Michaelson even provided a quote. To any other actor it may have been just another prop, but to Ford, from what I've heard, it sounded like his AB was more than that.

Ford stated he never took any hats home in interviews. He made the statement about the AB on set within earshot of several individuals involved in the production, and took the AB home with him.

We 'fans' also tend to read a LOT more into what we WANT to believe than what is actually stated. Rather than taking their comments at face value, 'we' tend to put a spin on it and state what we 'think' they meant rather than what was actually said.

Why would Ford lie about something as silly as hat ownership. He said he didn't take any HJ's home, but personally liked the AB and DID take it home. That seems pretty plain to me.

Well I also know Ford is notorious for bad memory. I saw him do an interview a few years back 1997, where they asked him what Indiana Jones's real name was and he didn't know it. And more stuff like that.

i remember having read or heard an Interview where it was stated he did have one of the hats at his home from the original movie.

Good point Michaelson. That's one heck of an endorsement for AB. And I am a firm believer in taking people at their word. I actually have the audacity to think people mean what they say. (Except maybe here on COW...hmmm) :-k

Dutch, how does that negate what he said and was quoted regarding the AB directly on the set and heard by several people standing right next to him? It sounds like you're trying to imply something else that simply isn't there.

There's a difference between remembering one part from the next in the business Ford is in, and remembering what he says he likes and personally has in his closet.

Keep in mind, Ford has a pretty dry sense of humor. He may have been messing around when he said he didn't remember Indy's name.

I saw a picture in the CS Visual Diary that shows one of the hero hats being given to LaBeouf... upon the sweat band was a quote written by Ford, "It's All Yours... Harrison."

I loved this picture, and if anyone can post a scan of it please do!

That's a cool pic and listening to Shia talk in the interviews I know he's probably genuinely thrilled to have that hat. :)

That's the one! Thanks for posting it!

Proof that they aren't kidding around with the idea of passing the torch, or - hat, in this case.
