Tapering sleeves on Wested - Finished - Before/After added
I love my LC washed goat but feel the sleeves could be slimmer or more tapered. Any opinions on if a tailor could do this (don’t want to send it to the UK)? Has anyone done something similar to their Wested? Is it very complicated? How much do you think could be taken in before more major surgery is needed? Etc, etc, etc!
So as not to detract from the memory of "Wrong Way" in another thread and for the sake of anyone who may be thinking of doing this too, here's a before photo to show how big the sleeves were:
And after tapering:

Re: Tapering the sleeves on a Wested - opinions
I found a tailor who would do the work so I'll know in a week how it turns out. She didn't feel it was much of a big deal, so that's either a good sign or a bad sign. Either way, I won't wear the jacket the way it is now.
I was wearing my Nowak, which has perfect sleeves, so she took measurements from it to use as a guide. The cuff on my Nowak is five inches and the cuff on the Wested was just shy of seven inches! The difference was even worse near the elbow. That thing has bags for sleeves.
Since I've gotten my Nowak I went and tried on the other Indy jackets I have - I'll be getting rid of them simply due to how poor the fit is in comparison. If the sleeves on the Wested work out I'll hold onto that one as the washed goat is excellent for a light jacket.

S,did you just have them tapered from elbow to cuff or from the bicep ?.......my OTR LC/CS washed goat measures 6 1/4 as it came....remember what your was, mine is size 46.....interested to see your pics........
Re: Tapering the sleeves on a Wested - opinions
I told her to try and do what looks good but will probably taper from the bicep area. Anything she's able to do within reason should be an improvement. Even though people feel LC jackets have looser sleeves (but certainly not like the bags on this thing), this jacket is so non-SA I have no qualms whatsoever about changing the look.

Yeah, As far as I'm concerned Wested don't even have an LC range, they are that unliek the film jacket. Although you were unlucky. My LC sleeve is 5 inches - 7 would be stupid...Raider S wrote:I told her to try and do what looks good but will probably taper from the bicep area. My jacket was finished sooner than I thought and for $25 the nice Ukranian woman did an amazing job - I'm very pleased with the results.
Her stitching exceeds the original and even the satin lining was made less baggy and no longer pops out beyond the sleeve. I was worried the work might look unnatural given how the jacket was made, but the new taper fits right in.
The sleeve is still a bit looser than my Raiders, but that fits the style for LC. Don't know what a photo would show, but I'm certainly glad I now have a decent lightweight jacket for summer as I'm a big washed goat fan.

Congrats! Glad you're happy with the way it came out!

what's the cuff measure now ?
Re: Tapering sleeves on Wested - Finished - "Before" photo added
I added a before and after photos at the top to compare. The after is much better and now "normal" compared to how I recieved the jackets. Of course only so much could be taken out (only so much leather) before it would look bad at the top of the sleeve where it meets the body.
