Indy 5 - Cow, lamb or other?

after seeing both lamb and cow what do you think they'll pick for 5?

why did they go with cow instead of lamb for 4?

1) Costumers preference, he insisted on cowhide from the start.

2) The script meant that the jacket would get wet a lot, hence the nylon lining and the leather, he believed it would hold up to getting wet better.

3) I think that the film makers knew that blu ray etc would mean that the leather was going to be noticed more so went with the thicker cow. Years ago the lamb was used for the comfort of the performers under hot lights and in warm locations. Much of CS was made in the studio.... perhaps with air con?

The more important question is.....will there even be an Indy V? And if so, when?....in another 19 years?.....with Harrison playing a 90-year old Indy? :)

if Indy5 comes, they most likely will use one fo those 30 cowhide jackets made for Indy4...

but I suspect if Indy5 arrives,Indy will not be in gear...he will kinda look like Henry from LC..

We can only hope and pray that they DON'T make a V!!

With Indy 5 I'm afraid we'll see the return of Jar Jar Binks. in the form of Indy's new sidekick

It's already been demonstrated and proven that Santa switched over to a special limited edition "member's only" jacket tailored for him in the early 1980's.

They may take a look at Indy G's raiders made in dark CS hide .........that's a sweet combination.....if you haven't looked at pics on that thread treat yourself

I think they will stick to cow hide. The cow hide and beaver felt both worked very well for them in Crystal Skull. Why change it? Although I do think they should darken the jacket a bit.

I bet it will be cow again, but I still like the way lamb distresses.

Depends what they do with Indy 5. Cow is great quality and will carry you over much longer but lamb ALWAYS is more interesting to look at as a costume choice. It's much more versatile and gives away who the character is.
The plainness of the cow really shelters the clothes from ever becoming anything more than a costume, because Indy, the character he is, wouldn't wear the same jacket that late on in his life made from cow leather. He'd have a new jacket made that replicates his old jacket.

Afterall, he's a comfort-seeking character who always hopes to cling on to even the most unrealistic of schemes...

There are a lot of time gaps between all the Indy movies. The next Indy may go back and fill in some of that rather than move more into the future.
So the jacket may well be the Indy 4 in the next movie.

I've always thought that it would be difficult to go to a humid place like central or South America and wear a thick cowhide jacket. Having been there before, as the character is in the era of pre-mosquito repellant, etc., you would need a jacket for use as a covering, to keep them off your arms, etc., so from that perspective, maybe a thinner leather covering would be a more practical choice?

My guess......It'll be made from the hides of Gray Aliens which will make it laser proof. :whip:

I'm optimistic that they'll announce plans that they'll start filming another one this year, to be released next year.

The only problem I see with making V is the 1960's timeline. That was pretty much the birth of the James Bond spy movies. So if Lucas is following his pattern, (ie 30's = serial, 50's = sci fi, etc) then this is the route he may be taking. It might be obvious considering how many times did Indy mention his spying in KotCS?

As for the jacket, it will probably be cow. The Big 3 might not agree with a lot of things regarding Indiana Jones but they sure agreed on hating those lamb jackets.

I'm seriously doubting there will ever be an Indy 5. It's fun to speculate but four just left to much of a "stink" on the franchise. :?

They could go back to his days with the OSS. They've sort of already told you too much about the character anyway. Say what you will about “stupid” elements being added to “beloved” franchises, I believe that most people’s disappointment in “the new films” comes from being filled in “too much”. People don’t want to see a re-imagining of something (even if it comes from the original franchise creators) that they’ve already seen in their own mind’s eye.

PS- Ford's costume needs to be updated, period. They need to just find some clothes that look right. He just didn't look very cool in the new movie. Although Ford's age was a factor, age does not factor in in the ability to "look cool". They just needed to put him in clothes that looked right for him currently.

They can't go back and do another "prequel"....Ford is just too old to pull it off (unless he gets some major makeup job). In my opinion, if they do decide to do a prequel, they need to hire another, more younger actor, like Dennis Quaid.

i say lamb should be used.....better drape and character for sure. go with the shrunken lamb and have ILM digitally remove the scales just to drive kids nuts about the actual texture of the jacket 30 years from now

All they have to do is dye his hair and darken his whiskers. In fact when they first did a makeup test on Ford for pt. 4, Ford had them age him up because they had made him look too young for what was age appropriate. Still, there's no cure for the bloom being off the rose. You can't reheat a soufflé.

It might be possible to do a WWII era or post WWII era film. Some hair tonic might give us one more....

I think Indy has one more movie in him. But to make it interesting, it would have to be one that takes him out of retirement. Indy is presented with one more adventure that is just too good to pass up, whether it is because of the specific mcguffin or because a friend's life is in peril (but the latter was just done, so make it the mcguffin.) It would be an old man taking the hat out of mothballs, pulling the whip out of the storage chest, and setting out to do something he hasn't done for years. It'd make him an instant underdog, just like Eastwood in "Unforgiven".

Just no Mutt. Mutt's a dealbreaker for St. Dumas. They may as well have cast Will Wheaton as the kid.

Oh, and to keep this thread on topic, the jacket would be goat.

That's actually not the case actually. Sometimes lamb is chosen because it is easier to work with and lighter for actors to wear, that's all. ANY leather can be made to look distressed and really interesting, it just takes more work.

I agree. Update the costume, it looks tired and a bit naff.
