Simon Martin Crystal Skull Whip

Just got a Simon Martin Crystal Skull Whip!

It's a 10 ft. roo hide in whisky color. It is #99 which is the exact same one he is showing on his website. Simon tells me that this was his prototype and he ended up selling it to a gentleman in New Zealand. He ended up putting it on eBay and I was lucky enough to win it!

It is displayed with my newly acquired Crystal Skull Holster by Jake Johnson along with my newly acquired Lee Keppler Crystal Skull Belt! And of course the Webley WG!

This gear is all top notch, well made, and extremely screen accurate. Can't wait for the next Indy event!!

Awesome choice of a whip. Simon is an amazing whip maker. Real gentlemen to deal with isn't he?

So Dan, you know Chel the previous owner out in New Zealand? How did that come about? Chel seems to be a real good guy. Everything as promised. And what was really amazing was he shipped the whip FedEx Monday afternoon out of New Zealand and I received it at 9:30 AM Tuesday morning here in L.A.!! That was FAST!!!

I did email Simon about the whip. He got right back to me to confirm that Chel did buy the whip from him a few months ago. He seems like he is a great guy also. I plan to contact him again, now that I have the whip, to get some more info on the particulars of the whips construction.

Thanks all for the kind words regarding the whip!!!

How about some closer shots of the whip? :) That's a bit of a small photo.

Thanks!

Everything looks great Bond! One thing though (you know us sticklers are out there!), the whip holder isn't SA. I believe the Crystal Skulls holder looks something like this:

Other than that, you have some serious gear there! Love the look of Jake's holster and the whip is awesome!

Wade,

Yeah, I figured someone would pick up on the whip holder. That whip holder is my own design and I made it myself. It is designed to be non slip as the snap can slide up and down the strap so it can cinch up on the whip. There is also a snap so it can be easily removed off the belt without having to take off your belt. That snap also slides up or down the strap so in can cinch up on the belt. I've heard some people having problems with the holder sliding and shifting around on the belt. This design eliminates this problem

If I'm not mistaken I think you took a look at my whip holder and it's design at the QM summit at Fort McCarthur.

I've been thinking about getting a SA accurate holder since everything else is so SA. You make the holder that you show in that photo right? How much to get one to me here in L.A.? A Jake Johnson Holster, a Lee Keppler Belt, a Simon Martin Whip and a WadeVenture Whip Holder. Might as well share the wealth!

Let me know!

Bond-

I remember checking it out now. Great work on the design. I like out of the box thinking. I was more preoccupied with the whip in the photos. I just got an 8' Joe Strain and my appreciation for the craft has really escalated since holding this and other great whips at the Summit. Your Henry Jones Sr. is impeccable! What a great weekend.

I do make the holder shown. Shipping on a KOTCS whip holder from here in OC to you in LA is flat rate $4.80 and it'll get there in one day. Send me an email at the shop with your PayPal address and I'll send more info.

Bond, Celedonio contacted me earlier this year outside of COW, to ask some advice on whip cracking and on the Indy bullwhips. We’ve stayed in contact since. Really nice guy and extremely enthusiastic about whips and whip cracking. He’s recently been working with Whip maker Peter Jack in New Zealand and has started making his own whips, selling off a few in his collection including the Simon Martin to buy supplies. The work he’s done so far look’s really good.

BTW I like that CS holster and the Webly Green

Dan, Thanks for the info.

Chel (Celedonio) emailed me some pics of the whips he has made. They are very nice but he says he's not ready to sell them yet. He also mentioned he is selling off some of his collection because he will be moving to London soon and needs some funding for the trip. Do you know if he is a member here at COW? I mentioned to him that he might be able to sell any whips he has here at COW better than on ebay. At least our members will have a better apreciation for the whips. He ofered to sell me his Paul Nolan but I don't have the funds at this time. So if any one wants a real nice Paul Nolan PM me for the particulars and I will connect you with Chel.

Thanks also for the kudos on Jake's Holster and my Webley WG. That Webley is definately my biggest pride and joy!!

Wade, Thanks for the deal on the Crystal Skull whip holder. I'll be watching for it in the mail!!

Beautiful whip! If you hadn't said otherwise, I would have sworn that it was a Jacka whip.

Weston,

Yes it does look like the Jacka whip. I was told it was intentionally modeled after Jacka's Crystal Skull whip.

It's a great whip and I just love it!!

Do you know if he is a member here at COW?
I don’t think he is, I've never seen him post and he hadn't mentioned it to me if he was a member. He did mention the move to England, I was going to put him in contact with some of our British whip makers & crackers when he gets settled in. The Midwest bullwhip he had available is a pretty slick whip too, I had though about buying it myself just bad timing though with the holidays.

All the best.

Dan
