Wested Novapelle arrived! Care, feeding and aging ?

I just recieved a Wested Novapelle Raiders jacket. While this may not be the most Screen accurate jacket out there, I am happy with what I ordered. That being said, this is the jacket I plan to age to my liking. SA is relative, but nicley scraped, sanded, scratched and broken in are what I am looking for.

Any place you can point me with a good directions and a sequence of washing, Pecards, and other distressing treatment would be much appreciated.

Do sleeves shrink when washing? How do you dry the 'washed' jacket?

Also what no no's or techniques are ruining jackets?

I'm no expert on washing your jacket, even though I've done it. There are at least a couple of threads on how to do it and what to do afterwards though. I wouldn't want to mess you up with an improper step.

this hide has no protective finish on it.you dont need to wash or soak the jacket.if you want wrinkles on the sleeve just hit the shower with it for about 5 seconds.it will SOAK up so much water before you can say'wow did it soak up that much water'

trust me on this.

when you ahve done that wrinch out the exces and start wearing it.

it will break in and form to your frame

If you want to age it naturally don't put any dressing on it yet. It will pick up lots of nice scrapes and highlights on it's own. By all means give it a spritz with a spray bottle and scrunch up the sleeves to wear in some folds.

Bear in mind that it takes quite a while for it to hold wrinkes and they will be soft.

Then after a few weeks hit it with a little pecard dressing, it's like buffing fine furniture with beeswax, the jacket will glow! It shouldn't be shiny in normal light just a bit darker and all the marks and scrapes will take on more depth. You loose the velvetty texture once you pecard it tho.

In time the often folded areas like the tops of the pockets and the insides of the pleats will take on a characterful chris-cross grain.

Jake - just remember when sanding and using chemicals or what ever you choose to age your jacket, a little goes a long way! Be slow and cautious with it!!! Best of luck!

PICS? I'll post some pics when it's got something unusual and interesting in the ageing! Right now it looks like every other Wested Novapelle Jacket. Boring!

not really jake....i for one like to see happy owners sporting there new gear. everybody is different so its nice to see the 'same' jacket on different people. i personally like the smiles on pics....smiles that say, "my jacket is the best out there". i think thats what the whole hobby is about....my 2 cents

Before I had discovered the mad world that is COW I had already ordered the Novapelle Raiders Jacket. So what if it's not 100% screen accurate it's still an awsome jacket that I pretty much live in. It's already started picking up some nice natural ageing. I hit it with some pecards after about 2 months. As it rains a lot in Scotland it's started to pick up some nice creases.

My advice to you about ageing is just to wear it alot and try you hardest not to get to upset if you rub, scratch or catch it on things as you walk past things. The one thing I like (and this is weird) is the smell of the coat. Very nice. I know Im odd but are'nt we all
