Criticize this Fedora bash.

Here is my new Federation IV from Akubra. It was previously owned by another COW member who only wore it once, and now it is mine.
Before attempting to adjust the bashing any further, I thought I'd post the images and see if any bashing experts might tell me what is right and what is wrong.
i'd prefer more of an LC bash, but would be happy with a ToD as well, although I think the ToD has more taper than this hat can provide.
Any suggestions? (sorry about the face. It is the only one I've got, and has been broken a few times)

It may not be what you were after, but I really like the bash on that one. The bashed proportions look perfectly suited to your face and build. The pinch is generic enough not to be strictly Raiders, but tight enough to say "Indy." Great profile. I wouldn't change a thing.

I think you did a great job. I would just keep handling the hat by the pinch for a few days maybe a week to let the pinch settle in. Then when it's settle don't grab or handle it from there anymore.
Good job, better than most.

I'd love to get some outside photos, but I'm in New England right now, so I think I'll stay inside today.

Oh, come on! You should be used to that sort of stuff.

You did a great job! It even looks great on you. I too would like seeing some photos of it outside in natural lighting.

Oh, I'm very used to the weather. I just needed to have it for more than one day before taking it out in the torrential downpour.
Also, I can't take complete credit for the bash. As I said, I bought it from another member, theinterchange, who did most of the work. I just tweaked it a bit.
It's funny, because when he was selling it, he mentioned that it wasn't a very good bash. I was impressed when I took it out of the box.
So far I'm very happy with it. My only concern is that it has a bit of a reverse taper, meaning that it kind of billows outward at the top. I'm not sure how to address that. Maybe after the felt shrinks a tiny bit that will go away.

More than likely the reverse taper will go away with age. It is funny that it concerns you, though, since so many people search for that very feature for years!
Anyway, a few good soakings and it will likely ease up.

Yeah, it is my least favorite look. I want stovepipe or slight taper, not a lightbulb.

Hmm...
Nope. Won't criticise it. Fact is, it looks really good. It's nice to see hats every now and then that're simply thematically Indy and not necessarily an emulation of a specific film/scene hat. The advantage being that the spirit remains. This is something I feel *can* be forgotten a little when we get too bogged down in certain screen specifications (yes, I'm very guilty of this!
)
Having an Indy-all-rounder hat is a great way to see the forest for the trees, so to speak.
I dunno, did any of that make sense? Felt like it did...

Amen, conceited_ape!
I agree. My next hat, if there is one, will be a general Indy hat - no specific scene, just MY style Indy hat.

I'm glad to hear that Ape. I really did want a general Indy style hat. Exact details only concern me to the point that only the most experienced gearheads would even be able to call me out on it.
I'm happy to finally have this Fed IV, and I don't think I'll get another hat until I can justify buying an HJ (an exception might be the gray Fed IV), since I wear a tuxedo at least once a month, and the brown fedora doesn't really work with a tux and long charcoal wool coat.

Hi,
Do not forget
nobody except another Indiana Jones geek (like any one of us
) will be able to tell the difference between the crease you have done, and the crease related to a particular scene/movie. And if they were able, they would not care even a little
. Heck, in fact, the common people in the street identify any brown wide brim hat as an Indy hat - what is more, they are known to do so with hats that
do not much resemble an Indy hat, neither by shape nor by colour.
Corollary: a generic Indy look is perfectly acceptable if that is what you like.
Regards!

Ape, you touched on a very important point, in my book. All of my Indy hats have ended up becoming "binkmeister" hats. The thing is that as I handle, play with, and wear my hats, they all develop characteristics of the wearer (me, that is). While they still retain a definite Indyness to them, they don't necessarily fall into one movie scene or another. But they look good on
me, and that's all I care about at the end of the day.
maboot, your Fed looks good on you. Wear it in good health! ;-)

I concur 100%. Not only the bash, but the shape of the brim as well really suits you.

The Fed IV is one of the easiest hats to bash because the felt is stiff.
