Question for the experts (identification of a gun model)

This question of mine is somehow far from our hobby but I practically know nothing of firearms and not having anyone else to ask, I thought why not give a try to the experts on this forum.
Moderators will forgive me for this off topic I hope.
In one of Conan Doyle's short stories that I am reading, Sherlock Holmes asks Dr. Watson to bring along his service revolver and calls it "Eley's No 2". Now, for some reasons, perhaps looking into the wrong websites, I cannot find an image of this gun.
What I could gather from Wiki is that Eley Brothers were a manufacturer of firearms cartridges at the Eley's Cartridge Factory but not pistols. Perhaps Holmes was just referring to the caliber of the gun? (like saying "bring your .45 along", just guessing)
Thanks for your help, I know lots of firearm experts are in this forum so I thought I might aswell try and ask here.
