Indiana Jones's Bed from KotCS

Just thought I'd share this with the rest of you...
This must be my geekiest moment yet, but I just have to publicly announce that... I'm now the proud new owner of the screen-used bed (where Indy packs his stuff) from KotCS!!!
I'm still kicking myself over this, but this is one of the coolest things to add to my collection... Indy's very own bed! No doubt I'll be packing my Nowak over this bed sometime in the future! ;-)
I can almost imagine people misinterpretating me when I ask: "Would you like to see Indiana Jones's bed? Follow me to my bedroom..."

That is too cool. No kiding, that is probably the most random screen used prop to own and the most functional in everyday life. Break her in easy. ;-)

Withdrawn voluntarily. I had a comment, but didn't know if it pushed the limits. I thought if I questioned it, maybe someone else would, too.
Do tell on how you came by this souvenir.

Thanks guys! No big secret about how I got it though; I just picked it up directly from 20th Century Fox's prop warehouse!
Sadly McFly, Holt is more right than he knows! In a way, the bed already does come *somewhat* distressed, and looks the part of a bed already lived-in by Indy himself...
and for comparisons sake, here's a shot of it from the set tour video on Indianajones.com:
It's a queen-sized bed that's got quite a few nicks here and there, looking like a genuine antique (which it is). The real value though... It's Indy's bed!!!
Which I suppose means that I now share Indy's bed?
I'm still doing mental backflips here, Dr Ulloa! A Ford approved character piece, it doesn't get much better than this! Let me just go and give Pecards some thought...
Now I'll let the experts rip 'er apart... So G, have I chosen... wisely? ;-)

That's awesome, CD!!!! Great buy! I've noticed a bunch of KotCS making their way to Ebay, and at the prices offered, they're really not bad, if you can justify it. That's just a art deco piece apart from its history.

I guess Indy and Marion will be needing a bigger bed so let that one go, eh?
Unusual thing to have bought, but I like it. Well done!
Was there anything else for sale?

CONGRATS. Great piece. I saw that on Ebay for quite a while. Too much for my wallet, but if I had unlimited resources I probably would have bought it myself. They had his desk and typewriter which I was eyeing also.
NOW you have to get a SA bedspread for it. ;-)

I think Marion is going to be doing some redecorating to the sepia-toned palette that is the bedroom....
Congratulations on your purchase - it is a great piece! I also say the desk on ebay and thought it would have been a beautiful addition... Did your bed come with a certificate relating to usage in the movie?

This is a great piece especially if you need a new bed. Actually I think the style is fantastic and as you said the fact it is Indy's bed makes it all the cooler. I am curious though - you mentioned you got it from the prop warehouse but there is another post saying it was on ebay. Did you buy it from the prop warehouse on ebay?
This really is a cool piece though. congrats.

I checked and this auction has ended (buyer is listed as private), so I guess it is ok to post the photos? (Please edit moderators if this is inappropriate):

PLATON say he thinks the bed is too short and working on some screen caps to prove it.......(grin)

Where can I get one of those silly Indy pillowcases? I want one so bad to drive my GF nuts. Plus I'm tired of my Godzilla pillowcase...
The bed is actually nice looking and sort of my style. Would use it. Is that a Queen? Looks like a size smaller.

Yeah, I was eyeing the desk when it was up for auction, too. <sigh> Beautiful piece. Congrats, Castor Dioscuri, on the bed! What a catch!

man.......that's rich!!! thank's for making my day doc
castor, i think it's a fake. everyone knows that the bed had a K-stitch reinforcement on the headboard....you've got an X-box....but it could have been added in post production. its amazing to see the real piece now as i always though of his bed being grey....and non-textured.
oh man, i could go on forever. castor, congratulations. that is an awesome piece
enjoy it........i'll be over here drooling about it

Thanks Holt, and I INTEND to!
Platon, I'd rather not say, but let's just say it wasn't cheap, but if you can justify buying more than one Nowak, then this would not be a bad deal!
It came with a certificate of authenticity and all the usual legal mumbo jumbo, now I just need to go on a quest to find the perfect sheets. Any help wouldn't hurt at this point... ;-) ;-)
Of course, IndyDoc's recommendation certainly sounds... interesting... might have to look into that... Thanks everyone for the kind words!

What? Haven't you seen all the post-production stills where they had all the beds hanging from a rack? They had to have specialty beds for each scene. They had stunt beds that were pulled behind a truck, and different size beds for the stuntmen, with reinforcement and extra padding used. Different colors of woodstain for the different lighting in each scene, and some were just caked with fuller's earth.

Just a little note from bizarro world...

Castor that's a fantastic purchase. I love the style and the wood, not only you got a screen used prop but also an antique piece of furniture which I'm sure will last you longer than any new bed you can buy nowadays. It's a shame it's a bit chipped here and there, I'm very sure it's due to those cowboys of the prop department who hauled that thing like if they were throwing an ikea bed into the bin (somehow I just don't see the production purchasing damaged furniture for the film, so the damages must have been done afterwards). You have to be careful with that antique stuff!
May I ask if it had a price or you had to win it on auction? May I also ask where is this Fox prop warehouse? Can you walk in there just like Ikea and purchase stuff or do they do auction days? And where on ebay can you find this stuff??? Sorry for my ignorance (and the continious slashes to Ikea which I quite like for certain things afterall
)

Thanks Erri! I agree that it is a pity about the condition of the bed, but then again, it suits the role of something Indy would own well, given his knack for abusing his stuff!
I'll try not to break it down any further... I hope!
It did have a pricetag, so to speak, but some haggling was needed! As for the warehouse, I'd doubt that it would anything like Ikea, but more along the lines of a library that occassionally gets rid of old books with book sales.
With regards to the bed itself though, I am looking into getting some sheets or maybe a duvet that would be close to screen-accurate. This proves to be alot harder than I thought, given how the behind-the-scenes video and movie show different colors...

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t167 ... dysbed.jpg
Just another prime example of how cameras distort what we see, I guess. However, from those two stills, I'd believe the bedsheets/duvet to contain a fabric with a sheen (maybe satin) since it captures the reflection of the studio lights, and is most probably chocolate brown...
I never realized how hard it is to find just the right bedsheets with the right pattern and the right size of the pattern! Though at the moment, I'm leaning towards this:

Don't we married guys know it. I fortunately have a room in our appartment that I can use as an office, so that is where all my Indy, re-enactment and Doctor Who stuff is...

Thanks crismans! There's still plenty of good lines to go around, I'm sure... Like maybe now, I'll get screen-accurate bed bugs!
